Our client is a small, specialist business based in Parkes that designs and manufactures consumable products used in underground mining operations. They work directly with mine sites across Australia, the team is close-knit, and the work is genuinely hands-on. For someone earlier in their career, it's the kind of place where you actually learn the product from the ground up rather than sitting in a support function waiting for something interesting to land on your desk.

About a year ago they brought on a Mechanical Engineer who has settled in well and grown quickly in the role. He's now at the point where the business wants to back him with someone reporting directly to him. This position is the result of that.

You'll work through a weekly task list set by their engineer covering product trials, pull testing, data collection, and ground engaging tool evaluations. A portion of that work happens on local mine sites, and that's worth noting. The practical experience available here, working directly on site with the products you're helping develop, is genuinely hard to find for someone at this stage of their career.

You'll also get exposure to ground engaging technology as part of the broader business, which adds another dimension to the technical experience on offer.

The expectation is straightforward. You're given a task, you figure out what needs to happen, and you come back with it done. There is support on offer but you will not be micromanaged. If you work well autonomously and you'd rather solve a problem than wait to be told how, that's the kind of person they're looking for.

A Bachelor or Master of Mechanical Engineering is required, with up to two years of post-graduate experience being ideal. Internship experience in manufacturing counts. You don't need a mining background. SolidWorks is an advantage and other CAD experience is workable. Any exposure to coding or programming is a bonus given where the business is heading technically.

How you operate within a small team matters just as much as the technical side. The culture here is worth protecting and they'll be assessing that alongside everything else.

The role is Parkes based, Monday to Friday. A relocation allowance is available for the right person who needs to make the move, and the business is set up to support that transition properly.
