Are you looking for a finance role where your work contributes to lasting environmental impact?

This is an opportunity to play a key role in a growing national conservation organisation while enjoying the flexibility of remote work and a genuine work-life balance.

About Us

Biodiversity Legacy (BDL) provides a pioneering approach to protecting land for future generations, and for engaging regional communities in ongoing environmental stewardship. We fill a gap in biodiversity conservation where protection via another existing conservation pathway isn’t possible or suitable. Specifically, we:

Facilitate land protection through the transfer of title into safe community-governed not-for-profit ownership structures (local landholding entities) for long-term conservation;

Support with identification of viable stewardship pathways; and

Provide ongoing governance support to ensure that land is protected according to its intended purpose.

About the role

We're looking for an experienced Finance & Business Manager who enjoys combining financial management with business operations, governance and continuous improvement.

Reporting to the Head of Conservation Engagement & Partnerships, you'll provide leadership across finance and business operations, ensuring our financial systems, governance and internal operations support the organisation's long-term sustainability and growth.

This is a broad and rewarding role, ideal for someone who enjoys balancing strategic thinking with hands-on implementation.

You'll work closely with our Executive Team, Board, program staff and external advisers to ensure BDL remains financially strong, well-governed and equipped to deliver meaningful conservation outcomes.

If you enjoy improving processes, building efficient systems and helping organisations thrive, this role offers the opportunity to make a genuine impact.

The role is offered part-time and is fully remote (Victoria or New South Wales preferred) with occasional travel to Melbourne and/or other regional areas.

Business operations

Developing policies and procedures that improve efficiency and accountability

Managing external suppliers and service providers

Supporting program teams with financial systems and reporting

Provide Executive support to the leadership team as required.

Ensure business systems are efficient, scalable, and support organisational growth.

Governance & compliance

Supporting compliance with ACNC, DGR and statutory obligations

Maintaining financial controls and organisational risk frameworks

Monitoring compliance requirements

Supporting workplace health and safety

Preparing reports for the Executive and Board on compliance status and emerging risks

Develop and lead finance policy and process improvement

About you

Essential

Tertiary qualification in business administration, commerce, accounting, or a related discipline.

Strong understanding of financial governance, compliance, and risk management frameworks relevant to charities and not-for-profit organisations.

Demonstrated knowledge of financial management and reporting standards applicable in Australia.
