About the role
My client is seeking an experienced Senior Underground Geologist to join their mining operations team. This is a full-time position based in FIFO from Perth, on an 8+6 Roster.
My client is transitioning from project development to production, with their Underground Operation forming a
key pillar of the Company's growth and value creation strategy.
In this strategic role, you will be responsible for leading geological investigations and interpretations of underground mining environments, providing critical insights that drive operational decisions and resource optimisation. You will play a key role in ensuring safe and efficient mining practices whilst maximising ore recovery and minimising waste. This position offers the opportunity to influence mining strategy at a senior level and mentor junior geological staff.
Duties:
Directing underground geological mapping, sampling and data collection programmes to support mine planning and grade control
Interpreting geotechnical and geological data to assess rock mass stability, ore body geometry and structural controls on mineralisation
Providing expert geological advice to operational teams regarding ore extraction sequencing, mine design optimisation and resource estimation updates
Managing relationships with exploration, mine planning and production teams to ensure geological information is effectively integrated into operational decision-making
Conducting field inspections and underground visits to assess geological conditions and validate geological models
Developing and maintaining detailed geological databases, 3D geological models and technical documentation
Identifying opportunities for improved geological understanding and recommending targeted drilling or sampling programmes
Supervising and mentoring junior geological and technical staff, fostering their professional development
Ensuring compliance with mining regulations, safety protocols and environmental standards in all geological activities
Contributing to resource and reserve statements and providing technical input to feasibility studies
Essential:
Minimum 8+ years' professional experience in underground hard rock mining geology, with demonstrated progression to senior level
Strong expertise in geological mapping, structural geology and orebody interpretation in underground environments
Solid understanding of mining operations, mine planning principles and grade control methodologies
Proficiency with geological modelling software and mining industry-standard software packages (such as Datamine, Surpac or equivalent)
Experience with 3D geological modelling, wireframe development and resource estimation supporting processes
Excellent field skills with the ability to work safely and productively in underground mining environments
Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex geological concepts to non-geological stakeholders
Leadership and mentoring experience, with the ability to manage and develop technical teams
Tertiary qualification in geology, geoscience or related discipline (BSc or MSc preferred)
Membership of or eligibility for professional geological bodies (such as AusIMM or similar) is advantageous
Demonstrated knowledge of mining legislation, safety standards and environmental compliance relevant to Western Australian operations
Candidates must be based in Perth and have an Australian Visa
