About Us:

Condamine Apiaries is a family owned beekeeping operation located in Wheatvale, about 15 minutes west of Warwick. The business has been in the family for 3 generations, and is currently owned and operated by David and Rosie Stevens. The operation relies on migratory beekeeping; travelling to areas where the trees are flowering to produce honey and provide pollination throughout South East and Western Queensland and Central NSW.

About The Position:
Key Responsibilities:

Working with European Honey Bees (Apis mellifera species)

Utilising appropriate personal protective equipment (supplied)

Safely lighting and extinguishing a hive smoker

Harvesting honey from hives

Working in the honey extraction facility to extract honey

Construction and maintenance of hive equipment

Monitoring and maintaining hives to ensure that they are functioning appropriately, as well as pest and disease free

Transportation of beehives to pollination contracts, honey production apiary sites, etc.

Undertaking seasonal beehive management, which will involve work away from home, as well as work on some weekends and public holidays

Maintaining accurate records related to re-queening, apiary site record, disease monitoring, cleaning and sanitation, honey extracting and processing

Adherence to relevant work, health and safety, and food standards for work with a stinging insect and with a food product

Undertaking beekeeping work in accordance with “National best management practice for beekeeping in the Australian environment”

Compliance with industry quality assurance requirements

Salary is negotiable depending on experience

Skills and Experience:

Must be physically fit with no known allergies to bees/bee stings

Good communication skills towards staff and community members to maintain and create good business relationships

Ability to work individually and within a team environment

C licence a must, HC licence or willingness to obtain an advantage

Forklift and skid steer licence advantageous

Hive management and beekeeping in general is a practical based profession. The skills needed are best obtained by on the job training working directly with the bees and assessing what they need under the present conditions. Any experience in the beekeeping industry is advantageous.
