Facilities Maintenance Supervisor – Education
Full-Time | Sydney | On-Site
Competitive Salary Package

An established and highly regarded education organisation is seeking an experienced Maintenance Supervisor to join its Facilities team.

This is a hands-on supervisory opportunity for an experienced maintenance professional who enjoys leading a small team, coordinating contractors and making sure buildings, facilities and infrastructure are maintained to a high standard.

The successful candidate will play an important role in the day-to-day operation of the campus, working closely with the wider Facilities team to coordinate preventative and reactive maintenance, respond to issues and ensure works are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

About the Role The Maintenance Supervisor will oversee day-to-day maintenance activities across a large and diverse education campus.

You will be responsible for coordinating the maintenance team, allocating work, managing contractors and ensuring preventative and reactive maintenance tasks are completed effectively.

This is a hands-on role, so we're looking for someone who is comfortable getting involved in the detail, troubleshooting issues and providing practical support to the team when required.

The position operates within a busy environment where priorities can change quickly, so the ability to stay organised, communicate effectively and take ownership of issues is essential.

Occasional work outside standard business hours may be required to support planned works, events or urgent maintenance requirements.
Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the day-to-day activities of the maintenance team.
  • Allocate and prioritise maintenance jobs and respond to urgent issues.
  • Coordinate preventative and reactive maintenance across the campus.
  • Carry out regular inspections and identify defects, maintenance requirements and potential risks.
  • Coordinate and supervise external contractors and service providers.
  • Monitor the quality, safety and completion of maintenance works.
  • Assist with minor repairs and maintenance where appropriate.
  • Coordinate servicing and maintenance of building services and equipment.
  • Assist with minor works and facilities improvement projects.
  • Ensure maintenance activities are completed in accordance with WHS requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and completed works.
  • Assist with compliance, inspections and essential maintenance requirements.
  • Work closely with the Facilities team and internal stakeholders to resolve issues.
  • Provide practical technical advice and support to the maintenance team.
  • Assist with maintaining a high standard of presentation across the campus.

About You We're looking for a hands-on maintenance professional who has stepped into, or is ready to step into, a supervisory position.

You may currently be working as a Maintenance Supervisor, Leading Hand, Senior Maintenance Technician, Facilities Supervisor, Building Services Supervisor or experienced tradesperson looking for the next step in your career.

You'll ideally have:

  • A trade qualification in a relevant discipline such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, building or another maintenance-related trade.
  • Previous experience in building maintenance, facilities maintenance or a similar environment.
  • Experience supervising a small maintenance team, tradespeople or contractors.
  • Strong practical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience coordinating preventative and reactive maintenance.
  • Experience managing or coordinating contractors.
  • A good understanding of WHS and safe work practices.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • The ability to prioritise multiple jobs and respond calmly to urgent issues.
  • A proactive approach and willingness to get hands-on when required.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in the quality of your work.
  • A professional and customer-focused approach.

Experience working within an education, commercial, healthcare, hospitality or other complex operational environment will be highly regarded.

Why Apply? This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled trades or maintenance professional looking to move into a genuine supervisory role without stepping too far away from the hands-on side of facilities maintenance.

You'll have responsibility for a varied campus environment, work alongside an experienced Facilities team and have the opportunity to develop your leadership and facilities management experience.

The organisation offers a stable working environment, a varied role and the opportunity to build a long-term career within facilities and maintenance.
