Tradewind Australia is partnering with a leading community-focused organisation to recruit a passionate and dedicated DFV Positive Relationships Mentor for a vital youth and family program in Cherbourg.
About the Opportunity
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Domestic & Family Violence (DFV) Positive Relationships Mentor to join an established, values-driven community organisation. Based in Cherbourg, this vital role focuses on supporting young people and families who have been impacted by domestic and family violence.
In this position, you will help participants identify, build, and maintain healthy, safe, and positive relationships. Through a combination of frontline engagement, safety planning, and community collaboration, you will empower clients to overcome complex challenges and work towards long-term safety goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with children, young people, and families impacted by DFV through trauma-informed support.
- Facilitate behavioral change by mentoring youth on healthy relationship dynamics.
- Conduct robust risk assessments, design comprehensive safety plans, and manage case documentation.
- Address intersecting, complex client issues such as substance misuse and mental health challenges.
- Collaborate closely with community stakeholders to promote local safety and positive outcomes.
- Develop and deliver culturally appropriate programs tailored to the needs of the community.
Requirements to be successful for this role:
- Qualifiaction: A minimum 3-year degree in Counselling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related behavioral science field.
- Experience: Proven experience supporting individuals navigating high-risk DFV situations and engaging with complex or hard-to-reach young people.
- Cultural Competence: A strong understanding of and deep respect for working sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and communities.
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 2012 and the Child Protection Act 1999.
- Valid Queensland Driver's Licence
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificates
- Working with Children Blue Card & NDIS Worker Screening Check (or willingness to obtain)
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends to meet client needs.
