Quick question...

Have you ever looked at an ad and thought:

“Who approved this?”

Have you watched a business spend thousands promoting another recycled Canva template, copied trend or piece of AI slop?

Have you produced work you wouldn’t put your name on because the deadline mattered more than the idea?

Or watched a strong concept get slowly watered down until it looked exactly like everything else online?

Good.

You may have found your people.

We’re VenueScale, a growth consultancy and marketing agency helping hospitality and entertainment brands across Australia generate more customers, bookings, retention, revenue and profit.

We’re looking for a Creative Marketing Strategist to lead our creative output.

Not someone who waits for a brief.

Not someone who thinks creative strategy means copying the first ad they find in the Meta Ads Library.

Someone who can look at a business, see what isn’t working, identify opportunities others have missed and turn them into campaigns people actually notice.

Someone with ideas.

Someone with judgement.

Someone who knows the difference between work that is technically acceptable and work that is genuinely exceptional.

ABOUT THE ROLE

You’ll lead creative direction across VenueScale’s client portfolio.

You’ll have a creative team producing and editing beneath you, and an account team looking to you for strategic direction.

Your job is to develop ideas worth executing, including the hooks, concepts, angles, offers and campaigns that help our clients stand out.

You’ll review the work that comes back, hold the quality line, mentor the team and make sure we keep pioneering rather than becoming comfortable.

This is a leadership role with hands-on edges.

You should be able to open Ads Manager, navigate an account, upload creative and understand the numbers.

You should also be comfortable jumping into Canva, CapCut, Kapwing or an email build when needed.

You won’t need to execute every asset yourself.

The real value you bring is judgement.

Knowing why one ad converts and another doesn’t.

Knowing when the hook is too slow.

Knowing when the offer is weak.

Knowing what to test next.

Knowing when something looks polished but will be forgotten three seconds later.

And being willing to say so.

YOU’LL ENJOY THIS ROLE IF…

You constantly save ads, campaigns, emails and content ideas.

You mentally rewrite bad ads while scrolling.

You notice when a restaurant’s offer makes no sense.

You notice when a booking process loses people at step three.

You notice when a venue is empty on Tuesday nights but has never given anyone a compelling reason to visit.

You see commercial opportunities everywhere, even when you’re meant to be off the clock.

THIS IS NOT A PURE DESIGN ROLE

And it isn’t a pure media buying role.

It sits between creative, strategy, performance and commercial thinking.

You need to understand the anatomy of a winning ad and what makes people stop, watch, click, enquire, book and return.

You need strong creative intuition, but you cannot be precious about your ideas.

Some will fail.

Some will work far better than expected.

We want someone curious, willing to experiment and comfortable testing ideas that haven’t been tried before.

We fail fast, so we can learn and improve the next version.

WHAT YOU’LL ACTUALLY BE DOING

One day, you might develop a campaign to fill a restaurant’s quiet periods.

The next, you might review the data and realise the creative isn’t the problem at all. The offer is.

You might be:

Developing campaign concepts for hospitality and entertainment brands.

Writing hooks, scripts, headlines, email concepts and creative briefs.

Building creative testing plans.

Reviewing Meta performance and deciding what to test next.

Improving offers, landing pages and booking flows.

Directing designers, editors and content creators.

Reviewing creative and providing clear feedback.

Developing launches, promotions and retention campaigns.

Using AI to improve production without replacing actual thought.

Stopping the team from publishing something mediocre because it is “technically finished”.

Fortunately, our clients are actually interesting.

We work with restaurants, bars, venues, events, attractions and entertainment brands.

You won’t spend your week writing captions about tax returns, industrial piping or commercial photocopiers.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

You don’t need 15 years of agency experience.

But you do need to understand performance marketing.

You should understand:

Why an ad converts.

Why an email gets clicked.

Why a video gets watched.

How the hook, body and call to action each do a different job.

How to turn a business objective into a strong campaign concept.

How to develop multiple creative angles.

How to use AI as a creative tool rather than a shortcut.

You should be comfortable with:

Creative and marketing strategy.

Meta Ads Manager.

Creative testing.

Strong, platform-native copywriting.

Canva and basic design execution.

Email and landing page layouts.

Basic to intermediate video editing.

Managing multiple clients and campaigns.

Directing creative teams.

Presenting your ideas.

Changing direction when the data proves you wrong.

BONUS POINTS IF

You’ve worked in hospitality, entertainment, events, nightlife or lifestyle.

You can shoot strong phone-first content.

You have performance marketing experience beyond Meta.

You’ve worked within an agency or managed multiple brands.

You can show examples where your work improved bookings, leads, revenue or another measurable result.

WHAT YOU’LL GET

Extensive training and full support.

Genuine autonomy to do what is needed to help your clients grow.

A driven, ambitious and vibrant team.

Direct access to VenueScale’s senior leadership team.

Interesting hospitality and entertainment clients.

Serious growth prospects as VenueScale expands.

Help us build an empire and we’ll give you a lordship.

We cannot guarantee the lordship will be legally recognised...

TO APPLY

Send us:

Your CV.

Your portfolio, reel or relevant work.

The best-performing ad you’ve created and why you think it worked.

One idea you would test for a hospitality venue during your first month.

Anything else you’ve created that you’re genuinely proud of.

Show us how you think.

Show us your taste.

Show us that you understand the relationship between creativity, attention and commercial performance.

If this ad feels more interesting than the other tabs currently open on Seek, you may be in the right place.

We’re already interviewing and expect the role to move quickly, so send through your application sooner rather than later.

Wishing you good luck,

Morgan
