Job Summary

The General Manager is responsible for the overall management, strategic direction, and operational performance of the company. The role involves leading business operations, developing and executing growth strategies, managing key clients and stakeholders, ensuring financial and project performance, and providing strong leadership across all departments.

The General Manager will ensure that the company achieves its business objectives while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, compliance, customer satisfaction, and profitability.

Key Responsibilities
1. Business & Strategic Management

Develop and implement the company's business strategies, objectives, and annual operating plans.

Identify new business opportunities, markets, clients, and strategic partnerships.

Drive revenue growth, profitability, and long-term business sustainability.

Monitor market trends, competitors, and industry developments.

Provide regular business performance reports and recommendations to the Managing Director / Board.

2. Operations Management

Oversee the company's day-to-day operations and ensure efficient resource utilisation.

Establish operational policies, procedures, and performance standards.

Ensure projects and operations are delivered within agreed budgets, schedules, quality standards, and contractual requirements.

Monitor overall project and operational performance and take corrective action where required.

Coordinate effectively between project, engineering, commercial, procurement, finance, HR, and other departments.

3. Project & Contract Management

Provide leadership and oversight for major projects and contracts.

Review project budgets, programmes, manpower requirements, and resource allocation.

Monitor project profitability, cash flow, variation orders, claims, and contractual risks.

Ensure timely resolution of major project issues and client concerns.

Maintain strong relationships with key clients, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and business partners.

4. Financial Management

Take overall responsibility for company financial performance and profitability.

Work closely with Finance to establish budgets, forecasts, and financial targets.

Monitor revenue, costs, margins, cash flow, and financial risks.

Review major quotations, tenders, contracts, procurement commitments, and commercial decisions.

Implement effective cost-control measures while maintaining operational efficiency and quality.

5. Business Development & Client Relations

Lead business development and customer relationship initiatives.

Develop and maintain strong relationships with key clients and strategic partners.

Oversee tendering, pricing, negotiations, and major commercial proposals.

Participate in client meetings, negotiations, presentations, and contract discussions.

Enhance the company's reputation, market presence, and competitiveness.

6. Leadership & People Management

Provide clear direction, leadership, and motivation to management and operational teams.

Establish performance objectives and ensure accountability across departments.

Develop succession plans and strengthen the company's management capabilities.

Identify training and development needs.

Promote teamwork, professionalism, integrity, and a performance-driven culture.

7. Quality, Safety & Compliance

Ensure compliance with applicable Singapore laws, regulations, industry standards, and contractual requirements.

Promote a strong safety culture throughout the organisation.

Ensure appropriate quality management systems and procedures are implemented.

Monitor compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and client standards.

Ensure risks are identified, assessed, and appropriately managed.

8. Corporate Governance & Risk Management

Identify operational, financial, contractual, and business risks.

Develop appropriate mitigation and contingency plans.

Ensure proper internal controls and approval processes are maintained.

Support the Managing Director / Board on major business decisions and corporate initiatives.

Represent the company professionally with clients, authorities, industry partners, and other stakeholders.

Overall project gross margins and financial performance.

Successful project delivery within budget and schedule.

Business growth and new client acquisition.

Customer satisfaction and client retention.

Cash flow and outstanding receivables management.

Compliance with company policies, regulations, and contractual requirements.

Qualifications & Requirements

Degree or Diploma in Business Management, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.

Minimum 10 years of relevant management experience, preferably with several years in a senior management or General Manager position.

Proven experience managing business operations, projects, budgets, and teams.

Strong commercial, financial, negotiation, and contract management skills.

Strong understanding of the Singapore construction / M&E / engineering industry will be an advantage.

Excellent leadership, communication, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.

Strong business development and client relationship management skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.

Strong understanding of workplace safety, quality, regulatory, and contractual requirements.

Preferred Experience

Candidates with experience in M&E, ACMV, construction, engineering, facilities management, or building services will be preferred, particularly those with a proven track record of managing large projects, operations, and multidisciplinary teams.
