About the role
We're looking for a Junior Lawyer, ideally with around 2 years' post-admission experience, to join our criminal law team. This is a genuine opportunity to build a career in a fast-paced practice where no two days look the same. You'll carry real responsibility from early on, working closely with senior lawyer who are invested in developing your skills, while being exposed to a broad and varied caseload across the Riverland, metro and Adelaide areas.
Key responsibilities
Manage your own caseload of criminal law matters, from summary offences through to more serious indictable matters
Draft correspondence, court documents, submissions, and pleas in mitigation
Appear in the Magistrates Court and, where relevant, the District and Supreme Courts of South Australia
Liaise directly with clients, providing clear, practical, and compassionate advice, including at police stations and correctional facilities as required
Conduct legal research and stay current with developments in criminal law
Travel to attend court appearances and client matters across the Riverland, metro and Adelaide areas as required
Work closely with the wider team to manage a busy, fast-moving workload
About you
Admitted legal practitioner in South Australia
Approximately 2 years' relevant experience preferred; criminal law experience highly regarded but not essential for the right candidate - Ideally coming up to 2 years' experience is preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Sound judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities under pressure
A genuine interest in criminal law and in supporting clients through difficult periods in their lives
Willingness and flexibility to travel for court appearances and client work across the Riverland, metro and Adelaide areas
Current driver's licence
A collaborative, can-do attitude suited to a small, busy team
