Job description
Our R&D team is looking for a Senior Product Design Engineer / Industrial Designer to join the business. This is a hands-on role where you’ll work across the full product lifecycle. From designing products from scratch and prototyping concepts, through to getting on the tools and identifying real-world pain points. Reporting to the Director of R&D, you’ll collaborate with internal teams and external partners, both locally and overseas.
You’ll also play a key role in refining and improving existing products through design iteration, field feedback, and continuous improvement. You will take ownership of product lines, leading both new and existing products from concept through to production, ensuring design intent, quality, and performance are maintained.
Requirements
Minimum of 5 years industry experience
Tertiary qualification in Industrial Design, Product Design Engineering or Mechanical Design Engineering
Full working rights in Australia
Technical Capabilities
You understand the full product development process and can take a product from concept through to production without losing design intent.
You are highly proficient in SolidWorks, including surface modelling, sheet metal design, and producing engineering drawings to AS1100 standards.
You can clearly communicate ideas through both sketching and 3D modelling.
You have strong experience in design for manufacture and a solid understanding of materials and processes, including injection moulding, die casting, extrusion, and sheet metal fabrication.
You bring strong mechanical understanding and can solve complex design challenges with practical, manufacturable solutions.
Experience with electronics and/or Arduino prototyping is highly regarded.
How You Work
You have a high level of attention to detail and take pride in delivering well-resolved designs.
You have a strong understanding of aesthetics, market trends, and ergonomics.
You're comfortable working autonomously, managing your time, and taking ownership of outcomes.
You communicate clearly and collaborate well with both technical and non-technical teams.
Why Join HSP
You'll be working on real products that go to market, not concepts that sit on a screen.
You'll have the opportunity to influence design decisions end-to-end and see your work out in the field.
