THE CLIENT
Our client is a part of the Iconic Snowy Hydro 2.0 project in Cooma. They are a leading heavy mechanical engineering, services and contracting business operating throughout Australia and New Zealand in major capital cities and regional locations. They perform an integral role in the development of ANZ infrastructure across mining and resources, transport and power markets.
Location: Kosciuszko National Park, NSW
Roster: 14/7 FIFO or DIDO – 12-hour day shifts
Salary: $280k - $310k + Super + 25% Site Uplift

THE ROLE
- The Site HSE Manager is responsible for developing, implementing and promoting a safe, accident-free and healthy work environment across the electrical and mechanical scope (Turbine, Generator, BoPe, BoPm, Hydraulic steel structures and associated site activities) at the Snowy Hydro construction site.
- This is a key leadership role responsible for driving HSE performance through strong risk management principles, coaching, mentoring and building relationships across the project team, client, contractors, subcontractors and workforce.
- The successful candidate will be a visible leader on site, working closely with production teams to identify, control and eliminate risk while supporting safe delivery against project schedules and targets.
- This is a transformation-focused role where you will have the opportunity to review existing systems, implement improvements and help build a strong safety culture within a growing HSE team.
- Ensure HSE compliance with regulations, contractual requirements (ex. reporting), certifications (ISO 45001, 14001, 9001 and possibly COR) and the company HSE Management System
- Develop, review and implement site-specific HSE programs, risk assessments, SWMS, SOPs, environmental plans and safety improvement initiatives
- Provide strong risk management guidance across the project, working with production teams to identify hazards, controls and practical solutions
- Manage, mentor and develop the site HSE team (currently 2 personnel with plans to grow to 15-20+ including future supervision support)
- Build strong relationships with project leadership, client representatives, union workforce, subcontractors and site personnel through a highly visible and approachable leadership style
- Support incident investigations, near miss reviews and corrective action processes, ensuring lessons learned are implemented effectively
ABOUT YOU
• Minimum 8 years’ experience in a HSE management role within heavy construction, mining, renewables, infrastructure, oil & gas or similar high-risk environments
• Strong background managing HSE within a production, construction or heavy industrial environment
• Proven experience leading investigations, reviewing safety systems, improving documentation and implementing corrective actions
• Strong understanding of Australian / NSW HSE legislation, Workplace Relations Management and Heavy Vehicle National Laws
• Strong communication and influencing skills with the ability to engage operational teams, leadership, clients and contractors
• Experience using HSE management systems and software (Iron X / SharePoint experience advantageous)

PROJECT INFORMATION
Snowy 2.0 is the next generation of the iconic Snowy Mountains Hydroelectric Scheme, and construction of this major pumped hydro project is well underway. Once complete, the Scheme will provide 2000 megawatts of dispatchable, on-demand renewable power and approximately 350,000 megawatt hours of large-scale energy storage to the Australian National Electricity Market.
