We are seeking an exceptional leader to help deliver high quality regulatory outcomes that protect public safety, support economic development, and enhance community wellbeing, whilst delivering fair, customer focussed, consistent and contemporary regulatory services, and supporting Council's vision for a growing and prosperous Townsville.
This position plays a key role in protecting the safety and health of the community through the enforcement and regulation of local laws including animal management, parking, unsightly properties, unauthorized use of Council land, camping and overgrown properties. The position will also manage projects, prepare reports and presentations for Council meetings, mentor and coach team members, review local laws and collaborate with external stakeholders.
Reporting to the General Manager – Environmental Health & Regulation, you will manage 4 teams with a total direct and indirect staff responsibility of 30. As part of Council’s Operational Leadership Teams you will lead, coach and develop a diverse team of regulatory professionals to build a high-performing, collaborative and accountable culture. Responsibilities include:
Driving continuous improvement initiatives that enhance service delivery, customer experience and regulatory outcomes
Providing strategic leadership across a broad portfolio of regulatory functions
Fostering positive relationships with residents, businesses, government agencies and key stakeholders
Ensuring legislative compliance while applying sound judgement and balanced decision-making
Managing operational performance, resources, budgets and workforce planning
Championing innovation, safety and a culture of continuous learning.
You have demonstrable experience leading multidisciplinary teams within a regulatory, compliance, local government and/or similar environment/s. You are recognised for your ability to navigate complexity, manage risk, and pivot between operational and strategic activities, whilst maintaining a strong customer focus.
A calm collaborative manner, the ability to coach, develop and maintain a high performing team, excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills will be critical to success in this diverse and challenging role. Tertiary qualifications and/or local government experience is desirable but not essential.
