Community Strengthening Team Leader

Full-time, 38 hours a week

This is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under 'special measures' of Section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.

About the Role

As a member of the Community Strengthening Leadership Team, the Team Leader provides day-to-day leadership of Case Practitioners, Cultural Mentors and Workers across Community Strengthening’s Integrated Model of Care, Community Protecting Boorai (CPB) and Galnya Yarka (Section 18), ensuring service delivery is culturally responsive, legislatively compliant and aligned with organisational priorities, practice standards and funding requirements.

The Team Leader provides operational supervision, case consultation and decision-making support to Case Practitioners, Nagwitpa Yarka Worker and Yanha-Narrak Workers ensuring complex matters are managed effectively, risks are identified and responded to appropriately, and families receive coordinated and timely services. The role promotes reflective practice, continuous learning and professional accountability, fostering a positive team culture that values collaboration, innovation and cultural integrity.

The position is responsible for monitoring team performance, service demand, workload allocation and program requirement deliverables while ensuring accurate documentation, quality case recording and compliance with legislative, organisational and funding requirements. The Team Leader contributes to workforce development through coaching, mentoring, induction, performance management and identifying opportunities to strengthen staff capability and service quality.

Working closely with Aboriginal families, Child Protection, community organisations and government agencies, the Team Leader builds collaborative relationships that strengthen integrated service responses and improve outcomes for Aboriginal children and families.

About You

To be successful for this position, you should possess the following qualifications and qualities:

You are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.

Diploma or Degree in Community Services, or a related discipline.

Diploma of Leadership and Management, or a related discipline.

Extensive knowledge of the local Aboriginal community, culture, kinship systems and the role of Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations in strengthening Aboriginal children, families and communities.

Demonstrated understanding of child protection, early intervention, family strengthening and statutory service systems, including contemporary approaches to supporting Aboriginal children and families.

Sound knowledge of Aboriginal child-rearing practices, cultural safety, healing-informed practice and the importance of culture, connection and identity in promoting child safety and wellbeing.

Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary teams within child and family services, including workload management, staff supervision, operational planning and performance management.

Highly developed skills in case consultation, assessment, risk management and supporting practitioners working with complex child protection and family matters.

Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor and develop staff through supervision, reflective practice and professional development.

Strong communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with Child Protection, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, community services and government agencies.

Demonstrated ability to monitor program performance, manage competing priorities and achieve contractual and organisational outcomes.

Comprehensive understanding of relevant legislation including the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005, Child Wellbeing and Safety Act 2005, Family Violence Protection Act 2008, MARAM Framework, Child Safe Standards and Information Sharing Schemes.

Demonstrated commitment to Aboriginal self-determination, culturally responsive practice and continuous improvement.

Salary packaging of $15,900 available for Part- or Full-time employees.
