Safety Manager - Heavy Vehicle Transport

The opportunity

Ron Finemore Transport is a nationally recognised, family-owned transport and logistics business with approximately 950 employees, 313 prime movers and 570 trailers. With a modern company-owned fleet and a strong reputation for safety and innovation, the business delivers essential food, produce, manufactured goods and fuel into communities across eastern Australia.

This is a hands-on leadership assignment for a transport safety professional who can strengthen governance while remaining connected to drivers, depots and day-to-day operations. Reporting to the General Manager, Safety Risk & Compliance, you will help lead the business through important Heavy Vehicle National Law, Chain of Responsibility, Comcare and ISO 45001 priorities.

What you will lead

Provide safety leadership, coaching and direction across the safety function

Strengthen the WHS management system, governance framework and executive reporting

Lead HVNL Primary Duty and Chain of Responsibility assurance

Support the organisation's transition toward ISO 45001 and key Comcare and NHVR milestones

Oversee incident investigations, root-cause analysis, corrective actions and lessons learned

Maintain the enterprise safety risk register and verify critical controls

Coordinate internal and external audits, assurance activities and close-out of findings

Partner with operational leaders to turn legislative and system requirements into practical controls

Build safety capability and influence behaviour at executive, management and frontline levels

What you will bring

Demonstrated safety leadership within road transport, heavy vehicle logistics or a closely related commercial fleet environment

Strong practical knowledge of the Heavy Vehicle National Law and Chain of Responsibility - this is essential

Experience translating transport safety obligations into workable operational systems and controls

Proven capability across investigations, audits, risk management, assurance and corrective-action governance

The credibility and communication skills to influence senior leaders, managers and frontline teams

A pragmatic, resilient and collaborative leadership style suited to a family-owned, operationally driven business

Comcare self-insurance and ISO 45001 experience will be highly regarded

A Diploma or higher qualification in WHS, compliance or a related discipline is preferred
