Experienced Metal Fabricator / Welder
Simcat Demolitions
Posted 2 hours ago
We are looking for an experienced Metal Fabricator / Welder to join our business in a new full-time position.
This is not a repetitive production welding role.
We operate established demolition and construction businesses and are expanding our in-house fabrication capabilities to support several new products and projects.
The successful applicant will work across a wide variety of fabrication including:
Prototype and production fabrication of modular pods
Fabrication of steel locker systems
Steel chassis and structural frames
Modular building frames and components
Hook-lift bin repairs and modifications
Truck and tipper body repairs
Plant and equipment repairs
Cages, stillages and custom steelwork
General fabrication for our construction and demolition operations
Who We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who is more than just a good welder.
You should be an experienced fabricator who can look at a concept, sketch or prototype and work out a practical and cost-effective way to build it.
We want someone who enjoys problem solving and can contribute ideas to improve designs, reduce fabrication time, simplify construction and make products easier to manufacture repeatedly.
Ideally you will have experience with:
MIG welding
RHS, SHS and structural steel
Steel mesh and sheet fabrication
Cutting, drilling and fabrication equipment
Building and using fabrication jigs
Reading drawings and working from dimensions
Prototype and one-off fabrication
Repair and modification of existing steelwork
Accurate measuring, setting out and assembly
A trade qualification in Engineering – Fabrication Trade or similar is preferred, although extensive relevant experience will also be considered.
The Role
This is a new position with considerable variety.
One week you may be fabricating a prototype locker system while the next could involve repairing hook bins, modifying equipment or fabricating components for a modular building.
We are bringing more fabrication in-house and want the successful applicant to become an important part of developing this capability.
There is also an opportunity for the right person to have genuine input into how our new products are designed and manufactured.
What We Value
We are particularly interested in someone who:
Takes pride in their fabrication and welding
Can work independently
Thinks practically
Is accurate and organised
Can problem-solve without needing everything drawn for them
Is comfortable undertaking both new fabrication and repair work
Can suggest better or more efficient ways of manufacturing something
Wants a stable, long-term position with varied work
If you’re an experienced fabricator who enjoys building, modifying and developing things rather than doing the same weld every day, we’d like to hear from you.
