Our client's Environment & Planning practice is expanding due to strong pipeline growth across major infrastructure, renewable energy, and urban development projects. The Role

We are seeking a high-calibre experienced Environment & Planning lawyer to join their collaborative Sydney team. In this role, you will run complex advisory and litigious matters while acting as a pivotal leader on the ground to the junior talent within the team.

You will be someone who genuinely enjoys mentoring juniors, guiding their technical development, and fostering a supportive team environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead Matters: Manage complex planning appeals, environmental compliance, enforcement proceedings, and advise on major infrastructure projects.
• Mentor Juniors: Supervise, mentor, and develop early-career lawyers and graduates, acting as a trusted sounding board.
• Client Management: Act as the primary contact for key government and private sector clients.

About You

• Experience: at least 5 + years PQE in Environment & Planning law within a reputable Australian firm or in-house or government.
• Mentorship Skills: enjoys coaching, mentoring, and developing junior lawyers.
• Technical Excellence: Strong drafting, advisory, and litigation skills (specifically Class 1, 3, and 4 Land and Environment Court experience).
• Culture Fit: Collaborative, empathetic leader who values a positive team culture.
