About the role
We are seeking a talented and reliable Chef to join our kitchen team at our well-established café in Canberra. You will prepare and cook a variety of café-style dishes, including breakfast, brunch and lunch items, while ensuring food quality, taste and presentation consistently meet the café's standards.
Key responsibilities
Prepare and cook a variety of café-style dishes, including breakfast, brunch and lunch items.
Assist with developing and creating new menu items and seasonal specials.
Ensure food quality, taste and presentation consistently meet the café's standards.
Manage day-to-day kitchen operations, including stock control, inventory and food costs.
Maintain a clean, organised and safe kitchen environment in accordance with food safety and hygiene regulations.
Supervise and train junior kitchen staff, ensuring consistency in food preparation and presentation.
Work closely with café management and front-of-house staff to ensure smooth daily operations.
Monitor portion sizes, food preparation and presentation to maintain consistency.
Assist with ordering and work with suppliers to source fresh, high-quality ingredients.
Minimise food waste and ensure ingredients are stored and rotated correctly.
About you
Minimum 2 years of experience as a Chef, preferably in a busy café or restaurant environment.
Strong knowledge of café-style cooking, including breakfast and lunch service.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen and manage multiple orders during busy periods.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to supervise and support other kitchen staff when required.
Passion for food with strong attention to quality, consistency and presentation.
Good knowledge of food safety, hygiene and kitchen procedures.
Relevant culinary qualifications or certification are preferred.
