Practice Manager – Specialist Allergy and Immunology Practice

Canberra Allergy | Deakin, ACT | Full-time

Canberra Allergy is seeking an experienced and highly capable Practice Manager to lead the operations of our established and growing specialist practice in Deakin.

Working with a team of seven doctors—including GP Allergists and specialist Immunologists—and a highly skilled, high-functioning nursing team, this role offers the opportunity to lead a sophisticated clinical environment and make a genuine impact on practice performance, team culture and the patient experience.

We are looking for more than someone who can keep the practice running. We are seeking a proactive and commercially capable healthcare leader who can develop people, improve systems and take ownership of delivering consistently high standards across the practice.

The opportunity

The Practice Manager will provide hands-on leadership across people, operations, patient service, compliance and business performance.

You will work closely with our doctors, nurses and administrative team to ensure the practice operates efficiently while supporting the continued growth of Canberra Allergy.

Key responsibilities will include:

Leading, supporting and developing the nursing and administrative teams

Building a positive, accountable and high-performing workplace culture

Managing daily practice operations, staffing, appointment capacity and patient workflows

Ensuring patients receive a professional, efficient and compassionate experience

Supporting the operational requirements of seven doctors across multiple clinical disciplines

Monitoring practice performance and identifying opportunities to improve productivity, access and service delivery

Managing recruitment, onboarding, training, performance and workforce planning

Maintaining strong relationships with doctors, referrers, suppliers and other internal and external stakeholders

Overseeing billing, reporting and administrative processes

Ensuring practice systems, policies and procedures meet relevant healthcare, privacy and regulatory requirements

Supporting the implementation of new services, technologies and operational improvements

Contributing to business planning and the sustainable growth of the practice

About you

You will be an organised, decisive and approachable leader who can balance the needs of patients, clinicians and the broader business.

You will be comfortable working in a hands-on clinical environment, resolving issues and following through on commitments. You will also understand that a high-performing practice requires strong systems, clear expectations and a team that feels supported to do its best work.

The successful candidate will ideally have:

Previous experience as a Practice Manager or in a comparable healthcare management role

Demonstrated experience leading clinical and administrative teams

Experience using Best Practice software, which will be highly regarded

A sound working knowledge of Medicare, medical billing and healthcare administration

Experience managing practice finances, budgets, payroll or performance reporting

Strong operational, organisational and problem-solving capabilities

The ability to analyse practice performance and implement meaningful improvements

Experience managing recruitment, onboarding and employee performance

Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills

A genuine commitment to high-quality, patient-centred care

The confidence to take ownership, make decisions and lead through change

Experience within a specialist medical practice, allergy clinic or similarly complex healthcare environment would be advantageous but is not essential.

Why join Canberra Allergy?

Canberra Allergy is a growing specialist practice committed to making high-quality allergy and immunology care more accessible.

You will be joining:

A collaborative clinical team of seven doctors (with plans to expand)

A highly capable and established nursing team

A growing specialist healthcare organisation

A practice focused on quality, innovation and continuous improvement

A role with meaningful responsibility and the opportunity to shape how the practice operates and grows

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Practice Manager who takes pride in building strong teams, improving performance and delivering an outstanding experience for patients and clinicians.
