About the Role

We are seeking experienced male Disability Support Workers to provide intensive, complex behaviour support for a participant who lives with family and requires active overnight assistance in their home. This is a hands-on, active night shift role, you will be awake and engaged throughout the entire shift, not on standby.

Shifts run 12:00am to 9:00am. This is a casual position with consistent, ongoing shifts available for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement and follow the participant’s Behaviour Support Plan (BSP) as directed by a registered Behaviour Support Practitioner

• Provide active, attentive support throughout the full shift, you will be awake and engaged for the duration

• Respond calmly and safely to behaviours of concern using a range of de-escalation strategies including verbal redirection, distraction, sensory regulation, and environment modification in line with the participant’s BSP

• Monitor the participant’s wellbeing, comfort, and safety throughout the night, including observation of sleep patterns and signs of distress or agitation

• Assist with personal care, mobility, toileting, and other daily living activities as required during the night

• Assist the participant with food or drink as needed during the shift, ensuring dietary requirements and any mealtime management protocols are followed

• Administer medication as prescribed and in accordance with the participant’s medication management plan

• Proactively manage the environment to reduce triggers and minimise risk, including maintaining a calm, safe, and predictable overnight setting

• In the event of an emergency or critical incident, follow Staycarewell’s incident response protocol immediately, including notifying the on-call manager, supporting the participant to safety, and completing an incident report

• Complete detailed and accurate shift notes, progress notes, and incident reports at end of shift ready for handover

• Conduct a thorough verbal and written handover to incoming day staff, clearly communicating overnight events, behaviours, and any concerns

• Raise any changes in the participant’s behaviour, health, or wellbeing promptly with the Behaviour Support Practitioner and team leader

• Adhere to all Staycarewell policies, NDIS Practice Standards, NDIS Code of Conduct, and relevant legislative requirements

• Maintain professional boundaries and respect the participant’s privacy and dignity at all times within their family home

Mandatory Compliance Requirements

All of the following are non-negotiable requirements. You must hold these or be actively in the process of obtaining them prior to your first shift:

• Certificate III or IV in Individual Support (Disability), Community Services, or equivalent qualification

• Current NDIS Worker Screening Check (must be verified by Staycarewell prior to commencement)

• Current Working with Children Check (WWC)

• Current Police Check (issued within the last 3 years)

• Current First Aid certificate (HLTAID011 or equivalent)

• Current CPR certificate (HLTAID009 or equivalent)

• Completed NDIS Worker Orientation Module — “Quality, Safety and You” (free online module, must be completed prior to first shift)

• Completed Supporting Safe and Enjoyable Meals training (or willingness to complete prior to commencement)

Additional Requirements

Essential:

• Demonstrated experience supporting participants with complex or intensive behaviour support needs

• Solid understanding of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) principles and Behaviour Support Plans

• Ability to work active overnight shifts (12:00am – 9:00am) reliably and consistently

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including accurate shift documentation

• Reliable transport and valid driver’s Licence

• Capacity to work calmly under pressure and respond safely to escalating behaviours

• Physically fit and able to perform manual handling, personal care assistance, and respond to physical incidents throughout an active 9-hour overnight shift

Highly Desirable:

• Training in restrictive practices or de-escalation frameworks

• Experience supporting participants with complex Autism, trauma, ABI, psychosocial disability.

• Medication administration competency

• Experience in in-home or family setting support environments
