Payroll Officer (Technical & Compliance)

$91,344 – $96,425pa + Superannuation

Full-time, 12 months fixed term

Make an impact beyond payroll processing

Are you an experienced payroll professional who enjoys solving complex payroll issues, interpreting industrial agreements and providing sound advice?

The City of Belmont is seeking a proactive and knowledgeable Payroll Officer to join our People & Culture team. This is more than a payroll processing role—you'll be a trusted payroll professional, working closely with managers and employees to maintain compliance and provide advice using your technical knowledge, judgement and initiative.

About the role

Reporting to the HR & Payroll Systems Administrator, you’ll be responsible for end-to-end payroll processing, investigating discrepancies, reconciling payroll data, interpreting industrial agreements and providing advice on complex payroll matters.

Strong payroll systems and Excel capability are essential, along with the ability to use data to investigate and resolve payroll issues.

You’ll understand the reasons behind payroll outcomes, apply sound judgement and confidently deal with matters that aren’t always straightforward.

With a high level of autonomy, the role offers variety across payroll operations, compliance, employee advice and data analysis.

This is a 12-month fixed-term opportunity with the potential to become permanent.

Why work with us?

At the City of Belmont, you’ll be part of a supportive team where your expertise is valued, you’re trusted to work with autonomy and there’s genuine opportunity to grow. We offer flexible working options, professional development opportunities and a range of benefits designed to support your work, career and life outside of work. You’ll also be part of an organisation that makes a real difference to a diverse and connected community, helping create a place where people can live, work and belong.

About you

We're looking for someone who understands how payroll works, not just how to process it.

You will take ownership of your work, enjoy solving problems and be confident working independently while knowing when to seek advice.

If you’re motivated by accuracy, problem solving and providing excellent customer service, and enjoy making a difference beyond simply processing payroll, we'd love to hear from you.
