McArthur River Benefits Pty Ltd

McArthur River Benefits Ltd (MRBL) invites Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified individuals for appointment as one of two inaugural Independent Directors of McArthur River Benefits Ltd, which acts as trustee for funds derived from native title agreements and held in a Charitable Trust and Direct Benefits Trust (Trusts).

The Trusts are established to benefit the Gudanji, Yanyuwa, Garrwa and Marra People of the Borroloola region of the Northern Territory. The Board is seeking individuals who demonstrate a strong commitment to the highest standards of governance, independence, and integrity, and who will support the proper oversight, management, and distribution of benefits in a manner that respects and advances the interests of these Traditional Owner groups.

Applicants should possess relevant skills and experience in all of the following areas:

Corporate governance and board experience including familiarity with the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth)

Financial oversight and fiduciary responsibilities

Trust management and compliance

Native title, agreement-making, or benefits management

Development of Trust policy

An understanding of, and sensitivity to, Aboriginal cultural values, decision-making processes, and community governance is essential. Applicants are encouraged to outline any connection or experience working with Aboriginal communities.

The position is a paid casual appointment, with meetings convened on an as-needed basis with the understanding there will be more regular meetings in the initial phases of the Board and the Independent Director may be required to undertake additional tasks to report back to the Board from time to time.
