About the Role
This role is responsible for managing the end-to-end processing of Freedom of Information (FOI) applications and ensuring compliance with the Freedom of Information Act 1992, departmental policies, and legislative requirements. Acting as the primary decision-maker, you will assess information access requests, prepare responses, and work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure the timely, accurate, and compliant release of information.
Beyond managing FOI requests, you will play a key role in promoting awareness of information access obligations across the organisation, providing guidance on legislative requirements, and supporting the development and maintenance of governance frameworks, policies, and procedures. You will also contribute to broader information management initiatives and continuous improvement projects within the Enterprise Information Management team.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end processing of Freedom of Information applications.
- Assess and prepare responses to requests under the Freedom of Information Act 1992.
- Act as the primary decision-maker for FOI applications.
- Liaise and consult with internal and external stakeholders to ensure legislative compliance.
- Develop, maintain, and review FOI policies, procedures, and governance documentation.
- Promote awareness and understanding of FOI obligations across the organisation.
- Support information management projects and initiatives within the Enterprise Information Management branch.
Skills & Experience
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Proven experience managing Freedom of Information requests and information access processes, including the assessment, review, and release of sensitive and confidential information.
- Strong legislative interpretation, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply legislation, policies, and regulatory frameworks to complex matters.
- Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, accurate, well-reasoned, and legally compliant correspondence, reports, and decision notices.
- Demonstrated ability to build effective stakeholder relationships and provide advice on complex information access, privacy, and governance matters to a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Experience developing, reviewing, and maintaining policies, procedures, governance frameworks, and supporting documentation within a legislative or regulatory environment.
- Sound judgement and the ability to manage sensitive, confidential, and high-risk information with professionalism, discretion, and a strong understanding of risk and compliance obligations.
- Well-developed knowledge of information governance, records management, privacy principles, and legislative compliance requirements, with a commitment to continuous improvement and best practice.
