Through collaboration with growers, researchers, government and industry partners, GRDC invests in research, development and extension (RD&E) initiatives that enhance productivity, profitability and resilience for Australian grain growers and contribute to the future of Australian agriculture.

The Opportunity

As the Business Development Officer, you will play a hands-on role in shaping the future of Australian grain innovation. You’ll work at the intersection of investment, research and industry impact, supporting the delivery of innovative programs, partnerships and funding models that turn great ideas into real outcomes for growers.

  • Play a key role in supporting investment, innovation and commercialisation activities that drive impact for Australian grain growers through the delivery of research, programs and strategic partnerships

The Role

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Support the delivery and administration of GrainInnovate (GRDC’s Equity Fund), including pipeline management, due diligence, governance and reporting
  • Support the preparation of investment briefs and support governance and stakeholder engagement activities
  • Assist in delivering innovation programs, including accelerators, incubators and Proof of Concept initiatives
  • Coordinate stakeholders across projects and contribute to program planning, delivery and reporting
  • Support procurement and contract management activities, including tender processes, contracting and performance tracking
  • Contribute to the development of new partnership and investment models and maintain associated governance processes
  • Build strong relationships across industry, research, startup and investment communities
  • Support commercialisation activities, including IP, licensing and research translation pathways
  • Provide broader project and operational support as required

The Ideal Person

You will bring strong communication, analytical and coordination skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and manage competing priorities effectively

  • Experience in investment, innovation, commercialisation, program delivery or related RD&E/commercial roles
  • Strong commercial judgement, with the ability to assess opportunities and link them to organisational and industry outcomes
  • Understanding of RD&E systems, research translation and stakeholder ecosystems
  • Exposure to procurement, contracting and compliance processes
  • High attention to detail and strong governance and reporting capability

Qualifications: Degree in Business, Finance, Agriculture, Engineering, Science or a related discipline or equivalent experience.

Salary / Rate

  • Hourly Rate: $65/hr – $75/hr + 12% Super
  • Engagement: Labour-hire contract
  • Location: Canberra, Adelaide or Toowoomba
  • Flexibility to work from home up to two days per week
  • 24-month contract with a possible 12-month extension option
