The Role

Join the Town of Port Hedland's high-performing workshop team as a Heavy Diesel Mechanic and play a key role in keeping our modern fleet of heavy plant, trucks, light vehicles and specialised equipment operating at its best.

Based at our Wedgefield Depot, this permanent full-time position offers the opportunity to work across a varied fleet, tackle challenging diagnostics, and contribute to the reliability of equipment that helps keep Port Hedland running. Key responsibilities include:

  • Diagnosing, servicing and repairing heavy diesel and light vehicles.
  • Performing preventative maintenance and breakdown repairs both in the workshop and in the field.
  • Troubleshooting faults and delivering practical, effective solutions.
  • Planning and executing maintenance activities to maximise fleet reliability and availability.
  • Contributing technical expertise to fleet planning, operational budgets and the Plant Replacement Program.
  • Working alongside a skilled and supportive team committed to safety, quality and continuous improvement.

Work Related Requirements

The preferred applicant will be required to undergo a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol assessment to be considered for the role, as well as possess:

  • Previous experience in a Heavy Diesel Mechanic role
  • Trade certificate of Heavy Mechanical/ Mechanical Engineering (AUS/NZ Recognised)
  • HR class manual driver's license
  • Rights to work in Australia
  • White Card
