Description

Our client is seeking an experienced Data Governance Project Manager to join their Canberra office. The Project Manager will be responsible for the successful management and delivery of the Data Governance Program. This role will lead delivery of a structured Data Governance uplift to address audit findings, strengthen regulatory compliance, and uplift enterprise-wide data governance capabilities. The program focuses on implementing governance frameworks, improving data lifecycle management, strengthening data quality oversight, and enhancing data visibility, classification, and control across the organization.

Manage and execute Data Governance initiatives to deliver agreed outcomes within timeframes and budget.

Perform project management and governance activities including reporting, budgeting, scheduling, and cost management.

Lead delivery of Data Governance uplift initiatives including policies, standards, roles, and accountabilities (e.g. Data Owners, Data Stewards).

Coordinate uplift of data lifecycle management practices, including retention, archival, and secure disposal aligned to regulatory and legal requirements.

Drive implementation of data discovery capabilities to improve visibility and control of sensitive and critical data assets.

Oversee delivery of data quality management processes, including controls, monitoring, and remediation of data issues.

Ensure alignment with regulatory obligations (e.g. Privacy Act, APRA requirements) and remediation of audit findings.

Work with relevant business units including Legal & Risk, Tax, Technology, Security and Data to coordinate tasks, resources, and deliverables.

Plan and manage workloads of a multidisciplinary team of staff, contractors, and vendors.

Drive stakeholder engagement and organizational change required to embed sustainable data governance practices.

Essential requirements

5+ years’ experience as a Project Manager delivering complex data or technology projects

Strong understanding of Data Governance principles, frameworks, and operating model

Demonstrated experience delivering Data Governance, Data Management, or Data Quality initiatives aligned to regulatory or audit requirements

Strong project management fundamentals with ability to manage scope, budget, schedule, and stakeholders

Strong written and oral communication skills

Ability to manage project team members to deliver committed outcomes and timelines

Exposure to APRA or similar regulatory frameworks and compliance environments

Experience with data governance tooling (e.g. catalogues, lineage, data discovery)
