About Us

The Department of the Legislative Assembly provides the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly, its Members and Committees with quality and timely support for the operation of the Parliament, Assembly Committees, the Parliament House precinct, and Electorate Offices (and staff).

The Library and Research Service (LRS), which is part of the Parliamentary Support Division, assists Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to undertake their parliamentary duties by providing timely, confidential and impartial library, reference and research services. The LRS also provides research support to Assembly Committees as required.

About the Role

As the Senior Researcher, you will conduct objective and impartial research and analysis across a broad range of topics as requested by MLAs and present the research in an appropriate format including fact sheets, briefing notes and comprehensive reports. Research topics may include historical, economic, environmental, demographic, social or legal issues. Legislative research is also a key part of the role. In addition to providing research support directly to MLAs and their staff, you will also undertake research to facilitate the work of Assembly Committees.

What we’re looking for

This role suits someone with strong research, analytical and writing skills, who thrives on learning new topics quickly, and values impartiality, accuracy, confidentially and professionalism.

Ability to undertake high quality research across a broad range of subjects including legislative research.

Highly motivated, ability to set priorities and work independently managing numerous research requests simultaneously with minimal direction and supervision, while also working as part of small team.

Highly effective collaboration and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to establish and sustain productive working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including with people from diverse cultures.

Thorough understanding of public policy and the operation of government.

High level administrative and organisational skills, and proficiency in the creation, management and maintenance of corporate records.

Knowledge of working in a parliamentary environment and relevant tertiary qualifications are highly desired.
