About the role

Fauna Resources are currently seeking experienced Fauna Spotter Catchers and Zoologists to join the team in Western Australia for an immediate start.

The current project North of the River operates Monday to Friday, five days per week, providing consistent weekday hours on a casual contract basis.

We’re looking for practical, switched-on fauna people who are confident working in the field, comfortable around machinery and construction activities and, most importantly, genuinely care about wildlife and doing the job properly.

If you’re a Perth-based Zoologist, Ecologist or experienced Fauna Spotter Catcher looking for flexible project work with a good crew, we’d love to hear from you.

Key responsibilities

Conducting preclearance fauna and habitat surveys

Identifying fauna and fauna habitat features

Safely capturing, handling and relocating native wildlife

Monitoring fauna during vegetation clearing and other construction activities

Working alongside clearing crews to minimise impacts to native fauna

Conducting habitat and ecological assessments

Recording accurate field data, GPS locations and fauna observations

Preparing concise field notes and contributing to project reporting

Ensuring works are undertaken in accordance with fauna management plans, project requirements, relevant legislation and permits

Maintaining high standards of animal welfare, environmental compliance and safe work practices

About you

A relevant tertiary qualification in Zoology, Ecology, Environmental Science or a closely related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated field experience

Practical experience identifying, capturing, handling and relocating Australian native fauna

Experience conducting fauna surveys, habitat assessments and ecological monitoring

Previous Fauna Spotter Catcher or fauna handling experience within construction, civil, mining or infrastructure projects

Good working knowledge of Western Australian fauna and relevant environmental legislation

The ability to confidently work around vegetation clearing activities, machinery and multidisciplinary site teams

Strong field recording and communication skills

A practical, reliable and safety-focused approach to fieldwork

A current Australian driver's licence

The ability to pass a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol screening

Highly Regarded

The following would be advantageous:

Venomous Snake Handling training

Green Card / Dieback Hygiene training

4WD training and competency

Construction, mining or other relevant site inductions and tickets

Experience working across the Perth region and surrounding areas

Experience with a broad range of fauna groups, particularly reptiles, mammals, birds and amphibians
