About the role

MacKillop Catholic College is seeking a dedicated and passionate English Teacher to join our Secondary Teaching team. This is a full-time position, commencing Term 4 based at our campus in Johnston, NT 0832. As an English Teacher, you will play a vital role in fostering a love of language, literature and communication amongst our secondary students. You will be responsible for delivering engaging, innovative English curriculum that inspires students to develop critical thinking, analytical skills and a genuine appreciation for the English language and its cultural significance. What you'll be doing

Planning, preparing and delivering high-quality English lessons in accordance with the Northern Territory curriculum framework and the College's educational standards

Developing and implementing engaging teaching strategies that cater to diverse learning needs and promote student engagement and achievement

Assessing student progress through a variety of formative and summative assessment methods, providing constructive feedback to support learning

Fostering a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages participation, respect and academic excellence

Teaching a range of English content areas including literature, composition, grammar, communication skills, and media literacy

Collaborating with colleagues to develop curriculum resources, share best practices and support whole-school initiatives

Maintaining detailed records of student attendance, progress and achievement

Participating in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practice and stay current with educational research and methodologies

Contributing to the pastoral care and wellbeing of students, promoting values aligned with Catholic education

Communicating regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and involvement in school activities

What we're looking for

A recognised teaching qualification in English or equivalent secondary teaching credential

Current teacher registration or eligibility for registration with the relevant teaching authority in the Northern Territory

Demonstrated expertise in English subject content, including literature, composition, rhetoric and communication

Proven experience teaching English at secondary level in a school environment

Strong knowledge of current curriculum frameworks and best practice in secondary English education

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex concepts clearly

Demonstrated ability to create inclusive and engaging learning environments that cater to students of varying abilities

Strong classroom management skills and the ability to maintain student discipline and focus

Commitment to ongoing professional development and a willingness to embrace innovative teaching practices

Alignment with Catholic values and a commitment to supporting the holistic development of students

Excellent organisational and time management skills

Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute positively to school culture
