As we continue to expand our Character Team, we're looking for a talented Character Technical Artist to help drive character rigging, deformation systems, and technical character workflows across our growing portfolio of projects.

About the Role

Working closely with the Character Technical Lead, you'll play a key role in developing robust character rigs, deformation systems, and production pipelines that support both real-time and cinematic character experiences.

This is a hands-on mid-level role suited to someone who enjoys working at the intersection of art and technology, combining technical problem-solving with strong character production knowledge.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain high-quality character rigs, control rigs, and deformation systems.

Create modular and reusable rigging solutions for characters, creatures, and stylised assets.

Support Unreal Engine 5 character pipelines, including Control Rig and animation integration.

Develop tools and automation that improve rigging, skinning, and production workflows.

Collaborate with Character Artists, Animators, Technical Artists, and Developers.

Support motion capture, retargeting, and animation workflows.

Troubleshoot technical issues relating to deformation, performance, and character integration.

Contribute to documentation, pipeline improvements, and technical standards.

About You

You'll bring:

4+ years' professional experience in Character Technical Art, Rigging, Technical Animation, or a related field.

Strong portfolio demonstrating rigging, deformation, technical problem solving, and character workflows.

Advanced proficiency with Maya, Blender, or equivalent DCC tools.

Strong understanding of character modelling, rigging, skinning, and animation pipelines.

Experience working with Unreal Engine 5 and Control Rig workflows.

Experience supporting motion capture and retargeting pipelines.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Ability to work independently while responding effectively to creative and technical feedback.

Valid Australian work visa or eligible work rights are required.

Highly Regarded

Python or MEL scripting experience.

Experience developing rigging tools, automation, or pipeline solutions.

Creature, animal, or non-human character rigging experience.

Experience with cloth, hair, and physics systems.

Character modelling, sculpting, or topology optimisation experience.

Exposure to gaming, virtual production, iGaming, or interactive entertainment projects.
