The Opportunity
Digital Forensics and Incident Response (DFIR) is an operational team within the ASD’s ACSC, delivering cyber incident response to support national security outcomes with various government and industry clients. The team provides technical advice and assistance as the cyber security experts of Australian Government, with particular focus on detecting, preventing, and responding to advanced persistent intrusions.
DFIR is looking for Deputy Directors, who are responsible for five operational teams, in dispersed locations across Australia. The Deputy Directors are located in Melbourne and Brisbane.
The Deputy Director:
• Prioritises and manages workflows in a high tempo operational environment.
• Manages teams of operational and technical staff across multiple locations and classifications.
• Provide support to operations including triage, resourcing and approval of reports for publishing.
• Provides advice and guidance, particularly with respect to compliance and legislative frameworks as they relate to operations.
• Contributes to strategic direction and leadership of the section, particularly around operational activity.
• Provides regular, timely reporting and advice to Director DFIR and seniors on operational matters.
Counter Cybercrime (CC) is an operational section within ASD’s ACSC, delivering ASD’s counter cybercrime mission. The team produces cyber threat intelligence about key cybercrime threats to Australia and coordinates activities to impose cost and consequence to mitigate the risks posed by these threats. The section produces a range of intelligence and technical products, and coordinates closely with domestic and international partners to deliver outcomes that protect Australia and our interests.
CC is looking for a Deputy Director who will be responsible for three operational teams in dispersed locations across Australia. This Deputy Director role is located in Melbourne.
The Deputy Director:
- Prioritises and manages workflows in a high tempo operational environment.
- Manages teams of analytical and technical staff across multiple locations and classifications.
- Drives the strategic direction of cyber threat intelligence and operational outcomes including triage, resourcing and approval of reports for publishing.
- Provides advice and guidance, particularly with respect to compliance and legislative frameworks as they relate to intelligence production and operations.
- Contributes to and drives strategic direction and leadership of the section, particularly around intelligence production and operational activity.
- Coordinates and advocates strongly with internal and external stakeholders to achieve ASD’s strategic objectives.
- Provides regular, timely reporting and advice to Director CC and seniors on operational matters.

Desirable Qualifications, Experience or Training
Previous experience in cyber security is desirable but not essential.
