The Opportunity

An established financial services business is seeking an experienced Compliance Manager to join its Melbourne team. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Risk & Compliance and working closely with the Chief Operating Officer, this is a broad, hands-on position encompassing the day-to-day management of compliance obligations alongside the continued development and enhancement of the organisation's risk and compliance framework.

The role will suit an experienced financial services compliance professional who understands the funds management environment and can confidently move between operational compliance, regulatory change, stakeholder engagement and broader framework development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Senior Manager, Risk & Compliance and Chief Operating Officer across the organisation's broader risk and compliance agenda.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and ongoing enhancement of the risk and compliance strategy and framework.
  • Manage day-to-day compliance requirements and ensure regulatory obligations are appropriately embedded across the business.
  • Manage compliance with key regulatory regimes, including Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) and Design and Distribution Obligations (DDO).
  • Monitor and analyse regulatory developments, industry guidance and legislative changes, assessing their potential impact on the business.
  • Prepare regulatory updates and provide guidance to Fund Managers and other internal stakeholders.
  • Support clients with compliance-related enquiries and provide clear, commercially focused advice.
  • Prepare risk and compliance reporting and materials for Board and executive committee meetings.
  • Oversee the review, development and ongoing maintenance of risk and compliance policies, procedures and supporting documentation.
  • Manage the incident and breach management process, including assessment, escalation, remediation and regulatory reporting where required.
  • Assist with risk assessments, compliance monitoring, control testing and the identification of process and control enhancements.
  • Support the planning and implementation of risk and compliance change initiatives and regulatory projects.
  • Review business processes, products and initiatives from a risk and compliance perspective and provide practical recommendations.
  • Develop and manage team members.
  • Identify opportunities to continuously improve the organisation's compliance framework, controls and overall compliance maturity.
  • Undertake other reasonable duties as required to support the broader objectives of the organisation.
About You

You will have a strong understanding of the Australian financial services and funds management environment combining sound technical knowledge with a practical, commercial approach and be comfortable taking ownership of both day-to-day compliance matters and broader framework initiatives.

You will ideally bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in a compliance management or senior compliance position within financial services, ideally within funds management, investment management or a related environment.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant Australian financial services laws, regulations and regulatory expectations.
  • A sound understanding of the funds management industry, investment products and fund structures.
  • Experience across incident and breach management, compliance monitoring, risk assessments and control testing.
  • Experience developing, reviewing and implementing compliance frameworks, policies and procedures.
  • The ability to interpret regulatory developments and translate requirements into practical actions for the business.
  • Strong written communication skills, including experience preparing Board, executive and regulatory materials.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and interpersonal skills, with the ability to confidently engage with Fund Managers, clients, executives and other internal and external stakeholders..
  • Well-developed project management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
