Most senior infrastructure engineers eventually find themselves making a choice.

Specialise in infrastructure.

Move into cybersecurity.

Or spend more time managing vendors than solving technical problems.

This opportunity offers something different.

Our client is a growing, mid-sized Australian healthcare organisation investing in the technology platforms that support clinicians, operational teams and patients every day.

As part of that investment, they're strengthening their internal engineering capability and looking for someone who enjoys solving problems, improving environments and making a genuine technical contribution.

Why This Role Exists

The immediate priority is a significant security uplift.

Over the next 6-12 months, you'll help improve identity, endpoint and infrastructure security while strengthening operational resilience across a multi-site healthcare environment.

As those foundations mature, the role naturally evolves into a broader senior infrastructure engineering position spanning infrastructure, identity, security and continuous improvement.

This isn't a pure cybersecurity role.

It's designed for an experienced infrastructure engineer who enjoys security and wants broader technical ownership rather than a narrow specialist position.

About the Organisation

Our client is a growing, mid-sized Australian healthcare organisation supporting thousands of Australians every day.

Technology plays a critical role in delivering reliable services across multiple locations while enabling clinicians and frontline teams to focus on what matters most.

As the organisation continues to grow, so does its investment in secure, modern and well-managed technology.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Head of IT and working closely with the CIO, you'll become one of the senior technical engineers within the organisation.

You'll work across infrastructure, identity and security while helping modernise the environment, strengthen operational maturity and reduce reliance on external providers.

This is a genuinely hands-on engineering role where you'll influence technical decisions, solve complex problems and see the impact of your work across the organisation.

What You'll Actually Do

  • Lead the organisation's security uplift across identity, endpoint and infrastructure platforms
  • Improve Essential Eight maturity and strengthen the overall security posture
  • Support the transition to Microsoft Entra ID, Intune and modern identity management
  • Maintain and enhance Microsoft infrastructure, virtualisation, storage and core platforms
  • Support networking, multi-site infrastructure and operational reliability
  • Improve backup, disaster recovery, monitoring and operational processes
  • Strengthen internal engineering capability by reducing reliance on external providers
  • Contribute to ongoing infrastructure modernisation and continuous improvement initiatives

What You'll Bring

You'll probably be working as a:

  • Senior Infrastructure Engineer
  • Infrastructure & Security Engineer
  • Systems Engineer
  • Infrastructure Engineer with strong security exposure

You'll ideally bring:

  • Strong Microsoft infrastructure engineering experience
  • Experience across Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft 365 and virtualised environments
  • Exposure to infrastructure security, identity management and security uplift initiatives
  • Experience with technologies such as Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, Microsoft Defender or similar platforms
  • A solid understanding of networking, storage and multi-site environments
  • The ability to balance security, operational stability and user experience
  • Strong communication skills and confidence working across both technical and business teams

Most importantly, you'll enjoy solving problems, taking initiative and leaving technology environments better than you found them.

Why Join?

Many infrastructure roles become increasingly specialised.

Others become focused on managing vendors rather than engineering solutions.

This opportunity gives you the chance to broaden your technical scope, work across infrastructure, identity and security, and play a visible role in strengthening the technology platforms that support a growing healthcare organisation.

If you're looking for a role where you can continue developing as a senior engineer while making a genuine impact, we'd welcome a confidential discussion.
