What you'll be doing
The incumbent will be an integral part of the Scientific Training and Development team and be responsible for assisting with the training, assessments and competencies of Scientific and Technical staff within NSWHP- South West Sydney area. The incumbent will travel across sites in the South West Sydney which includes Liverpool, Campbelltown, Bankstown, Bowral and Fairfield Hospitals and carry out Pathology laboratory staff training, performance development and competency assessments. The Scientific and Technical Area Trainers will be Pathology discipline experts in a minimum of two disciplines in the core laboratory and will facilitate continuing professional development for other staff within that discipline. Trainers will need to also assist in routine laboratory work to understand workflow and maintain their knowledge. This is a shift worker position, required to participate in 24/7 roster.

  1. Bachelor Degree or higher degree in Science/Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent qualification, with subjects relevant to pathology from a recognised tertiary institution.
  2. Customer focused approach displaying well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with customers, patients and clinical and laboratory staff, along with report writing skills, statistical evaluation of scientific data and the ability to effectively communicate policies and procedures.
  3. Evidence of expertise knowledge and technical experience in one or more disciplines within the field of Pathology (Core Lab) with experience in training, competency and method review.
  4. Demonstrated managerial skills with experience in laboratory operations, administration and budgeting.
  5. Advanced knowledge of Pathology Laboratory Information Systems including supervision of e-based Quality Management Systems
  6. Sound understanding of legislation, policies and requirements that impact the laboratory environment including work health and safety and privacy requirements.
  7. Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of accreditation frameworks, relevant standards and quality systems
  8. Current unencumbered NSW Class C Drivers Licence, and willingness to work across all NSWHP - South West Sydney area as required
