About the opportunity
Are you interested in working in a state-of-the-art facility with one of the largest public Anatomical Pathology laboratories? The Department of Tissue Pathology and Diagnostic Oncology at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital are currently seeking multiple Medical Laboratory Assistants to join our team, with both permanent and temporary full-time positions available.
As the statewide diagnostic service for bone and soft tissue sarcomas, pelvic exenteration, complex head and neck resections, liver and kidney transplants and diagnostic molecular pathology, you will be exposed to a diverse range of specialty pathology. The successful applicants will be joining a team of scientists and technicians, working together with administrative and medical staff, to ensure the delivery of high-quality pathology results to patients and clinicians.
Located at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Campus in Camperdown, Sydney, our laboratory is conveniently located near three train stations and multiple bus stops. Staff enjoy easy access to many local cafes and entertainment facilities.

What you'll be doing
Contribute to a high-quality pathology service. Perform a range of pre analytical duties including pathology collections, receiving and triaging of specimens, patient registration and request entry, specimen processing and preparation for transport or delivery to laboratories for timely accurate diagnostic testing.

- Certificate III in Pathology, Pathology Collections or Pathology Assistance, and/or previous experience in a pathology setting or a demonstrated ability to learn all aspects of the pre analytical environment, including phlebotomy.
- Demonstrated ability to manage tasks in a demanding environment where there are competing priorities and time constraints.
- Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers, internal and external.
- Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills combined with the ability to investigate and resolve general issues.
- Proficient computer skills including high attention to detail and data accuracy and the ability to operate and maintain pre analytical equipment.
- Demonstrated understanding of confidentiality and proper handling of sensitive information in a laboratory setting, following relevant legislation, policies, and requirements.
- Willingness to participate in a 24/7 rotating shift roster, including weekends, public holidays, and night shifts, and the ability to travel to any site or location within the operational area as required.
