Position Overview:
The Public Programs Coordinator is responsible for researching, developing, and delivering a comprehensive, inclusive, and accessible range of public programs for HOTA Gallery and its diverse audiences. The role also includes leading community outreach and engagement initiatives across the Gold Coast to strengthen the Gallery’s connection with arts and cultural communities and extend its reach beyond them. This role is initially a 12-month maternity leave full-time contract with the possibility of extension.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and produce unique public events and activities — including workshops, lectures, school holiday programs, floor talks, and guided tours — aligned with the exhibition program.
Build and maintain strong community engagement and collaborative relationships within the Gold Coast arts sector and surrounding regions.
Collaborate with the Education Coordinator to develop a cohesive annual calendar of programs and events.
Assist in the creative development of integrated programs across HOTA and the broader Cultural Precinct.
Support the coordination and delivery of Gallery functions, including exhibition launches and philanthropic or sponsor events.
Evaluate and enhance current programs, staying up to date with best practice approaches to strengthen HOTA’s reputation.
Coordinate the roster of Gallery Artist Educators in alignment with public and education programs.
Assist with marketing and communications for public programs — including social media and print materials — in collaboration with the Marketing Coordinator.
Contribute to grant applications and sponsorship proposals to support public programs and events.
Qualifications & Experience:
Qualifications and experience in arts education, public programs, museum studies, arts administration, visual arts, or a related discipline.
Understanding of international museum standards and the gallery/museum sector.
Proven experience in project coordination, including effectively planning projects and achieving desired outcomes.
Experience in building audiences to increase community participation, access, and engagement.
Ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently using initiative.
High-level verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with an audience-focused approach.
Demonstrated ability to produce activities, materials, and programs that inform and engage diverse audiences.
Experience preparing grant applications and sponsorship proposals to support public programs and events.
Experience coordinating rosters and volunteers.
Ability to work effectively in small, multi-disciplinary teams with limited supervision.
Proficiency in general office administration and computer skills, including Microsoft 365.
