Parks and Gardens Maintenance Officer – Temporary (4 months)

About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Parks and Gardens Maintenance Officer to join our Operations team on a 4-month temporary contract.

In this hands-on role, you’ll play an important part in keeping Knox’s parks, gardens, and open spaces safe, attractive, and welcoming for the community. Your key responsibilities will include the inspection, maintenance, and improvement of Council’s parks, gardens, and playground assets across the municipality. You’ll also assist in risk management, contribute to small operational and improvement projects, and support your team to deliver high-quality outcomes.

You will report to the Project Officer – Play Assets and Facilities and work closely with other Parks Services and Operations team members, as well as contractors and community stakeholders. This role plays a key part in supporting Knox City Council’s commitment to maintaining a safe, vibrant, and sustainable city environment in line with our values of caring, fairness, accountability, and knowledge.

This is a full-time temporary position (4 months) based at our Operations Centre in Knoxfield.

Remuneration: Band 3, $68,027.02 – $72,630.73 per annum, plus superannuation in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee.

What you will bring to this role

The key selection criteria for this role include:

  • Experience in horticulture, gardening, or arboriculture practices;
  • Experience in playground inspection and maintenance;
  • Competent in the safe operation of mechanical plant, tools, and equipment;
  • Ability to apply traffic management principles to work sites;
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to complete inspection records using an iPad or other digital tools;
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills with the ability to liaise with staff, contractors, and the public;
  • A current Victorian Medium Rigid Driver’s Licence (minimum);
  • Playground Inspection Certification and First Aid Certificate (preferred);
  • Traffic Control Certificates (RHWHS205H & RHWHS302H) (preferred).
