Hours: Tuesday 10:30am-4:30pm (flexible 11:30am-5:30pm) + Thursday OR Friday 10:30am-4:30pm (flexible 11:30am-5:30pm)
Rate: $70 per hour
Additional Opportunity: 2 hours per week (Saturday) for remedial massage support - $98.83 per hour

About the Role

We're seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate Independent Support Worker to provide one-on-one support to a 54-year-old male NDIS participant in Cairns. This is a genuine opportunity to build a meaningful connection while supporting someone who lives an active, intellectually engaged lifestyle.

About Our Participant

Our client is:

A 4th-year Psychology student at JCU

Philosophy graduate (University of Otago) and Traditional Chinese Medicine graduate (Endeavour College)

Passionate about health, wellness, fitness, calisthenics, and yoga

An avid 8-ball pool player and sprint swimmer

Interested in photography

A proud dog owner (15-year-old companion)

What You'll Be Doing

Practical Support: Assist with finding suitable rental accommodation

Community Access: Provide companionship on outings to fitness venues, pool halls, swimming facilities, and photography locations

Active Participation: Engage in health and wellness activities alongside the participant

Pet Care Support: Assist with dog-related activities as needed

Social Connection: Build a genuine rapport while respecting independence and choice

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements:

Current NDIS Worker Screening Check (Yellow Card)

Current First Aid Certificate

Valid ABN (working as independent contractor)

Reliable vehicle with comprehensive insurance

Current driver's licence

Personal Qualities:

Great sense of humour (GSOH essential!)

Vivacious, outgoing personality

Reliable and punctual

Interest in fitness, wellness, or active lifestyles

Genuine passion for person-centred support

Ability to build trust and meaningful connections

Desirable:

Interest in photography, 8-ball pool, swimming, or fitness

Experience in disability support, community services, or similar

Knowledge of health and wellness practices

Remedial/therapeutic massage qualification or demonstrated experience (for additional Saturday opportunity)

What We Offer

Excellent hourly rate: $70 per hour for support work

Premium rate for massage therapy: $98.83 per hour (if qualified)

Flexible schedule: 2 days per week with timing flexibility on both days

Additional Opportunity Available:

Saturday: 2 hours per week for remedial massage support

Rate: $98.83 per hour ($197.66 total for 2 hours)

Delivered as part of NDIS home support (Assistance with self-care activities)

Requires qualification or demonstrated experience in remedial/therapeutic massage
