Our office is based in Heatherton with services provided throughout the Southern Bayside and Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne. Nightlife's mission is to enable people to live as independently as possible and enjoy an inclusive lifestyle. We operate 7 days a week/365 days a year.
About the role
We are seeking a senior Registered Nurse on a part-time basis for 2-3 days, with duties focused on specialized clinical assessment, education, and management of high care tasks for our disability workforce.
You will work closely with our Area Coordinators and service delivery team, to assess and develop care plans for high intensity disability care including catheter, bowel, dysphagia, palliative etc. and medications, which we provide in concert with specialist nurse roles. Your duties will be varied and include assisting with clinical input into intake assessment and care planning, GP and hospital liaison, performing and writing up of routines, and training of staff in individual care. In addition, you will assist us in providing training to our wonderful and skilled workforce, to ensure they have the competency in key areas.
Roles and responsibilities
• Lead and manage all aspects of clinical care for Nightlife’s complex supports, including assessments, and care planning
• Work in partnership with palliative care teams, GP’s or other specialist bodies, to provide appropriate support based on an agreed and shared planning tools (ie. Discharge plan)
• Look for opportunities to develop our service offerings including nursing or developing capacity to deliver other High Intensity Daily Personal Activities, such as Subcutaneous Injections and/or Complex Wound Management, or other activity, as prescribed in the NDIS Practice Standards and Quality Indicators July 2018 descriptors for High Intensity Daily Activities.
• Undertake ongoing assessment of Support Workers as required, including face to face assessment against defined competencies.
• Implement our competency-based skills assessment of new and experienced support workers to embed contemporary practices in High Intensity Daily Personal Activities (Module1); inclusive of Complex Bowel Care and Urinary Catheter Management (In-dwelling Urinary Catheter, In-Out Catheter, Suprapubic Catheter).
• Provide coaching, mentoring and support to field staff, including in-house and on-the-job training
• Be an inspiring source of advice and direction in keeping with Nightlife policy & procedures
• Provide clinical supervision to other AHPRA registered, Enrolled/Registered Nurse support workers/practitioners
• Ensure all field staff have appropriate level of training and required competency levels to support participant care plans
• Works in partnership with the HR & Quality Officer, Service Delivery (SD) Manager and the CEO to develop an annual Training and Development Plan for Nightlife employees, specifically support workers.
• Proactively identify learning gaps and ensure the training and development program continue to be aligned to business priorities, contemporary industry and NDIS standards in keeping with our accreditation.
• Maintains accurate records of training and development of all employees
• In partnership with HR and service delivery review our in-house training program provided by NGO to ensure quality and compliance
Skills and experience
• Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration
• Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or willingness to obtain
• Experience in community/aged care/disability is essential (5 years +)
• Extensive experience and knowledge in clinical needs assessment; three years clinical experience in assessment preferred
• Significant training experience, working with diverse audiences
• Case Management experience
• A strong understanding of the relevant NDIS accreditation and NDIS Practice Standards and Quality Indicators and government funding packages in-home care / disability (preferred)
