The Secure Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit (SMHRU) at Townsville University Hospital provides a structured, recovery-oriented environment for up to 25 consumers. The unit delivers high-quality, evidence-based care focused on rehabilitation within a secure setting. Competitive salary and benefits
- Salary between $4138.10 – $4431.10 per fortnight (Nurse Grade 6, Band 1).
- 4 to 6 weeks p.a. recreational leave with 14-17.5% loading.
- Generous employer contribution to superannuation of 12.75%.

About your opportunity
As a Clinical Nurse in the SMHRU, you will provide advanced nursing care, leadership, and education within a secure mental health setting. You will coordinate care, support recovery-focused interventions, and contribute to clinical governance and continuous improvement. This role is ideal for a nurse passionate about mental health rehabilitation and committed to excellence in patient care.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent qualification.
- Current registration with AHPRA and a valid practising certificate.
- Evidence of vaccination against VPDs and TB screening as per Queensland Health policy.
- Possession of or working towards post-registration qualifications in mental health nursing (highly desirable).
- Eligibility for appointment as an Authorised Mental Health Practitioner (AMHP) under the Mental Health Act 2016 (highly desirable).
- Ability to work all shifts, including on-call, as per roster.
- Class C driver licence and willingness to travel for cultural support needs.
- A probationary period may apply.
