Our business operates through offices across Australia and New Zealand. Our business is a full cycle underwriting agency, including underwriting, claims, product, actuarial, finance and legal and compliance support for all our stakeholders. Our Insurance Products are distributed through licensed Insurance Brokers, distribution partners and direct to consumers in the Australian and New Zealand Market.
As our Risk & Compliance Officer, you will play a key role in supporting the Head of Legal & Compliance to deliver a robust risk and compliance framework. You’ll work across the business to ensure regulatory obligations are met, incidents and breaches are effectively managed, and a strong compliance culture is embedded.
Job Requirements
- Lead the operational delivery of NM Insurance’s Risk & Compliance Framework across Australia and New Zealand
- Oversee the implementation of APRA CPS 230 and maintain the enterprise-wide Risk Register
- Provide expert review and sign-off on marketing and advertising materials to ensure compliance with regulatory obligations and industry codes
- Conduct complex investigations into incidents and breaches, ensuring timely reporting and remediation in line with RG 78
- Prepare and present high-quality compliance reporting to executive leadership and board committees
- Design and deliver targeted compliance training and tools to uplift capability and embed a culture of integrity and accountability
- Partner with senior stakeholders across underwriting, claims, product, and distribution to identify systemic risks and drive continuous improvement
- Contribute to regulatory reform initiatives and strategic compliance projects across the business
Job Responsibilities
- Tertiary qualifications in law, business, finance, economics, or risk management
- Extensive experience in compliance, risk, or legal advisory roles within the general insurance or financial services sector
- Deep understanding of AFS licensing obligations, DDO, breach reporting, and APRA prudential standards (including CPS 230)
- Demonstrated ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and translate them into practical business solutions
- Proven experience in preparing board-level reports and engaging with senior leadership and regulators
- Strong capability in managing compliance registers, risk assessments, and regulatory change programs
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and advise at all levels
- High level of professional integrity, sound judgment, and a proactive, solutions-focused mindset
