Lives Lived Well offer a variety of community and residential Alcohol and Other Drug programs throughout Queensland, New South Wales, and South Australia, helping thousands of people every year to navigate AOD related challenges and move forward in life.
Your Opportunity
This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a diverse and rewarding role where you’ll support residents through their recovery journey. You’ll assist with group sessions, accompany clients to appointments, supervise self-administration of medication, and maintain accurate client records.
This casual role offers a competitive hourly rate of $38.66 – $41.45, plus superannuation, salary packaging benefits, and casual loading.
You’ll work a mix of morning, afternoon, and overnight shifts (including sleepovers.
Lives Lived Well is one of the only AOD support services in regional QLD, so you’ll gain a broad knowledge base of the sector – this role is ideal for people transitioning from other community service areas.
You’ll be responsible for:
As an AOD Support Worker, you will:
- Support residents individually and in groups to address substance dependence and related issues
- Complete admission and discharge processes for residents entering and exiting the service
- Facilitate group programs and recreational activities for residents in both withdrawal and rehabilitation programs
- Supervise residents in self-administering medication and maintain accurate records using LLW’s Resident Management System (HIVE)
- Organise and supervise approved community-based outings and appointments
- Respond appropriately to residents in crisis situations and contribute to a safe, trauma-informed environment
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and participate in team meetings and training
- Support culturally safe healing programs, especially for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents
- Contribute to service development and continuous improvement initiatives
What You’ll Bring
You don’t need to hold a formal qualification for this role, but you do need to be motivated, committed, and have a genuine interest in working within the Alcohol and Other Drugs sector.
- Flexibility and commitment to working a 24/7 roster pattern which may include evening shifts – and feeling comfortable working in an autonomous role
- Being an excellent communicator – you’ll be able to engage with a range of people from different walks of life, in a non-judgemental and supportive way
- A friendly, open, and positive attitude – building relationships to support clients, and providing them with a positive role-model, will be a big part of your role
- Emotional maturity and a calm demeanour, especially in high-pressure or conflict situations
- Working within professional boundaries with a solid understanding of how to practice these with clients and colleagues
- You’ll self-care – this role can be challenging and it’s important to us that you are at your best, to do your best
- Being willing, engaged and comfortable with change – we welcome ideas and suggestions for improvement
- Strong computer skills, experience with client note-taking and an understanding of how handovers work
You will need to hold a current Australian Drivers Licence, and either hold, be working towards, or willing to obtain a Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs, Mental Health, Community Services or other relevant field. You will also need to be willing to obtain your First Aid and CPR Certificate.
