About the role
As a Senior Project Engineer within our Roads and Maintenance department, you will take advantage of your sound knowledge of engineering design standards and guidelines, construction principles, project management, contract management and stakeholder engagement to provide specialist technical and engineering support to your unit and other departments.
You will effectively manage and coordinate the programming and delivery of major and complex road projects including management of design consultants, subcontractors and stakeholders related to the capital works program and achieve best practice in the provision of infrastructure.
As you will be providing direct supervision of the engineering work of unregistered engineers within the unit in accordance with the Professional Engineers Registration Act 2019, you yourself will be required to hold a tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering and a Professional Engineers Registration.
What your day will look like
Planning, designing and managing the delivery of major and complex capital works projects across the municipality
Reviewing engineering designs, cost estimates, consultant contracts and tender documentation to ensure quality and compliance
Developing and monitoring project programs, budgets, risk assessments and quality assurance systems to keep projects on track
Work closely with external consultants providing direction, oversight and support to achieve successful outcomes
Coordinating tender assessment panels and ensuring transparent, fair procurement processes
Preparing reports, briefings and presentations for senior management and Council regarding all aspects of the project delivery
Liaising with the public, service authorities, statutory agencies and other stakeholders to communicate project updates and resolve issues collaboratively
Providing guidance, mentoring and technical advice to staff in the planning and delivery of capital works projects
What you will bring
Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering with several years of subsequent relevant experience
Extensive experience in project management of highly complex road projects including budgeting, design, delivery and stakeholder management
Professional Engineers Registration in compliance with the Professional Engineers Registration Act 2019
Experience in civil road and drainage design, traffic engineering and construction practices
Experience in contract administration and management
Highly developed organisational and project management skills with the ability to work under conflicting pressures and achieve agreed outcomes
Well-developed and demonstrated experience in conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
Knowledge and experience in AutoCAD and 12D for the design of civil road works (desirable)
Previous experience within a Government environment (desirable)
