Bring your knowledge and experience of Domestic and Family Violence and trauma informed practice to the Alice Springs Local Court.

The Local Court of the Northern Territory, established under the Local Court Act 2015, deals with a wide range of criminal and civil matters across the Northern Territory. Presided over by Local Court Judges, who also sit in the Youth Justice Court and the Work Health Court, it plays a vital role in delivering accessible justice and hearing cases involving domestic and family violence

In response to addressing domestic and family violence, the Alice Springs Local Court has developed a specialised strategy with the aim of enhancing the safety and support for victims while fostering accountability and transformative behaviour in perpetrators. Such dedicated efforts signify a proactive stance towards combating domestic and family violence within the community.

As the Domestic Violence Registrar, your primary objective is to assist the Judicial Registrar and Judges to co-ordinate the ongoing implementation and continuous improvement of the specialist approach to domestic violence at the Alice Springs Local Court.

This involves overseeing and coordinating the provision of quality risk assessments and support services, liaising with stakeholders to answer queries and questions in relation to domestic and family violence matters, and organising appropriate training on domestic and family violence in consultation with judicial staff.

To excel in this role, you require a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent, coupled with a solid understanding of domestic and family violence dynamics and trauma-informed practices, supported by a working knowledge of the Domestic and Family Violence Act, the Family Safety Framework, or comparable regulations.

The role requires high-level communication, administrative, negotiation and interpersonal skills, together with the ability to develop and maintain effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, and to operate respectfully and in a culturally safe manner when engaging with Aboriginal and culturally diverse communities. In return, you will experience a rewarding career and receive a competitive remuneration package inclusive of 12% superannuation, 6 weeks annual recreation and 3 weeks personal leave, 3 days Christmas closedown leave, 17.5% annual leave loading and professional development opportunities to grow your career among supportive colleagues in the public sector.

Enjoy the enviable laidback lifestyle and work life balance that allows you time to explore the unique landscapes and dreamtime of the Central Arrernte people. The rich cultural society and community spirit makes Alice an easy place to meet people and make new friends
