Clinical Nurse Mental Health
Department of Justice WA
Posted 13 hours ago
Advance your career by joining one of the most diverse public sector organisations in WA.
About the role
The role of the Clinical Nurse (MHAOD), Youth Services, is to work as part of a multidisciplinary team based within the newly developed Crisis Care Unit (CCU) in Banksia Hill Youth Detention Centre.
The Clinical Nurse will work over a 24-hour roster and provide mental health assessment, risk assessment, risk management and safety planning, within the CCU and across general living areas within the detention centre.
The role of the Clinical Nurse is to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care of those identified as having mental health and/or drug and alcohol related problems, to assess and manage clinical risk and to participate in the development of the Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs Services.
It is well evidenced that young people in detention are some of the most vulnerable young people living in Western Australia (WA). These young people, the majority of whom are Aboriginal young people, are more likely to have experienced complex and intergenerational trauma, which is compounded by health, mental health, neurodevelopmental conditions, disadvantage, and the increased likelihood for substance misuse.
The Crisis Care Unit (CCU) will provide an integrated model of management for young people who are at risk of self-harm and suicide and young people experiencing acute mental health issues. The CCU will be collaboratively led by a Multi-disciplinary Team (MDT) and reflect evidence based best practice for the management of these young people that is culturally sensitive and reflective of that young person’s unique needs and experiences.
Experience in mental health nursing, Youth Services or CAMHS would be desirable.
