About the Role:

The overall purpose of the Technical Officer (Exercise Science) is to provide technical support to undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as Academic and Research staff in the areas of Exercise Physiology, Exercise Biochemistry, Clinical Exercise Rehabilitation within the College of Sport, Health and Engineering facilities. The Technical Officer (Exercise Science) will be required to utilise a large range of skills including the use, maintenance, and calibration of specialised equipment and the purchase of new equipment and laboratory/clinical consumables.

This position is at a HEP 5, $76,459 - $87,825 per annum +17% superannuation classification. This is a full time 36.75hrs/week fixed-term contract until March 2027 (maternity leave replacement).

Duties

Typical duties you may perform will include:

Set up and monitor the running of undergraduate and postgraduate laboratory practicals in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Biochemistry, Clinical Exercise and Motor Control laboratories, ensuring that all teaching laboratories and preparation areas operate in an appropriate condition to comply with Occupational Health and Safety legislation and Biosafety policies and to provide a safe and clean working environment.

Ensure all requirements for laboratory-based teaching classes are met in a timely fashion; including the availability of consumables, health care supplies and equipment, and set-up and pack-up of experiments, simulated learning laboratories and practical classes.

Assist with facility and equipment inductions, including specialist laboratory equipment (eg. ECG and metabolic systems) for staff, undergraduate and postgraduate students and ensure all end users are appropriately trained.

Participate in laboratory practicals development with regard to technical requirements and logistics and fulfil the technical aspects of activity delivery as required.

Your commitment to providing a positive student experience will assist you in delivering a high-level technical service to our students and academic staff undertaking teaching, research and consultancy activities within the tertiary education laboratory environment.

Skills & Expertise

Relevant knowledge and/or work-related experience in a tertiary education Exercise Physiology/Clinical Exercise Science teaching or research laboratory is essential. A demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively as part of a small team with the capacity to work independently with minimum supervision is required. The incumbent will require the capacity to understand and comply with employer policy and practices in all aspects of work and conduct, including OH&S and Anti-Discrimination responsibilities and complete/attend relevant training.
