About the Business:

Dr Deb The Travel Doctor, has been caring for a diverse customer base since 1988.

Ours is a systems-based, small private family business, providing health care to persons travelling overseas, as well as helping those on return with more unusual diseases. We are a specialised vaccination clinic so we also provide more unusual vaccinations such as Q Fever, BCG, Tick encephalitis, and Dengue. We regularly conduct research that is published in peer-reviewed journals, and offer medical assessments to corporate patients working in the mining sector.

We usually have 2-3 nurses working at any one time, and there is always a doctor on site. Applicants with added credentials in travel medicine will be preferred but training can be provided.

We use the medical software program, Zedmed, but also paper files.

A uniform is provided.

The workplace is in the Brisbane CBD close to public transport. There is no free parking.

All staff are required to be up to date with vaccination against COVID 19, Pertussis, Hepatitis B and influenza.

About the Role:

Relevant award is Registered Nurses Award Level 2, paypoint 4.

We are looking for a travel medicine nurse to join our pool, who has flexibililty to help cover our holiday leave. (we have a team of nurses who frequently go travelling) Some weeks may be 4 days per week, other weeks 2 days per week.

Hours of work: Mon Tues Thurs Fri start at 7.45 am, finishing with last patient of the day approx. 4:30 -5pm. Wed start at about 10am and finish by approx 6pm

Daily Role Requirements:

Vaccine administration,

Travel health education,

Conducting onsite spirometry, ECG, audiometry, drug and alcohol tests,

Venepuncture

Assistance with clinical research (at present this is conducting blood tests and occasional questionnaires)

All the while with careful attention to patient needs, accurate documentation and minimising waste. Assistance with stock management and care of the cold chain is an essential part of this job

As part of holiday cover, the successful job applicant with be trained on-site in clinic stock management.

Part of this training will be – teaching the applicant how to check and download vaccine fridge loggers weekly, counting of vaccine and medication stock, labelling and storage of medication, and ordering of products.

Please note that we have a dedicated stock management officer who is an RN, and the above would be approx. 1 shift per week while the officer is on holidays (approximately 4-6 shifts per year).

Successful applicants will -

Have AHPRA registration

Travel Medicine / Immunisation experience preferred but not essential – onsite training available

Prior overseas travel to the developing world is preferred.

Have a mature attitude, excellent attention to detail and a professional presentation and patient manner. They will interact well with our small and friendly team.

Preferred Job applicants MUST have availability to cover extra sessions.
