Role overview
We are seeking an organised and proactive Finance Officer to manage the day-to-day financial operations of the business. The ideal candidate will handle a variety of accounting and administrative duties, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting. The role requires a hands-on professional who can work efficiently under pressure, adapt to changing priorities, and provide the leadership team with accurate financial insights to support business success.
Key responsibilities
Oversee daily financial operations, including cash flow management and process implementation to ensure smooth business functioning.
Accounts payable – e.g., raise purchase orders, reconciliation of supplier statements, payment of bills.
Accounts receivable – e.g., raise invoices, follow up overdue invoices.
Manage all ATO compliance – BAS, PAYG, Superannuation, and EOFY reporting (with support from the external accountant).
Reconciliation of bank accounts and credit cards.
Set up and manage project budgets (within job costing software), including assigning and tracking project expenses.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, budgets, and forecasts.
Manage the business’s accounts email inbox and respond promptly to all queries.
Perform administrative tasks such as answering phone calls and emails, drafting documents and scheduling meetings (infrequent).
Build and maintain strong, trusting relationships with key customers, clients, and stakeholders to ensure long-term business success.
Skills and attributes
Proven experience in a similar Finance Officer, Bookkeeper, or Accounts role.
Proficiency with accounting software (preferably Xero).
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
Excellent communication and time management skills in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work autonomously with a proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement.
Strong knowledge of payroll, BAS, GST, and Australian accounting standards.
Qualifications
Certificate IV, Diploma, or higher in Accounting, Bookkeeping, or a related field (desirable).
Relevant experience in construction, shopfitting, or a similar project-based industry (highly regarded).
