About the Role
We’re looking for a Lead Backend Engineer to drive the design and delivery of a secure, scalable enterprise-grade API platform. You'll lead architectural discussions, shape backend standards, and be hands-on across service design, cloud infrastructure, and CI/CD workflows.

This is a greenfield opportunity to own a critical piece of the platform as the company scales nationally and internationally.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Architecting and implementing an enterprise-grade API platform with a strong focus on security, performance and external integration.
• Designing cloud-native microservices in AWS.
• Collaborating with product, design, and frontend teams to deliver features that provide tangible business and user value.
• Mentoring engineers and contributing to continuous improvement in workflows, tooling, and backend standards.
• Supporting observability, performance optimisation, and cost-effective deployment strategies.

Tech Environment

• Core stack: Python, AWS, MySQL, DynamoDB, REST APIs
• CI/CD: GitHub Actions or similar
• Nice to have: GraphQL, Golang, React familiarity, SQS/SNS, event-driven architecture

What We’re Looking For

• 10+ years of backend engineering experience, ideally in SaaS or product-led environments
• Strong experience designing and building scalable APIs and backend services
• Solid understanding of API security (OAuth2, JWT), data modelling, and performance tuning
• Experience working in cross-functional agile teams and mentoring junior developers
• Familiarity with CI/CD best practices, observability tools, and cloud cost optimisation
• Passionate about building reliable, user-focused tech that scales
