Full-Time, $70,004 per annum (plus entitlements) or opportunity for entry level position with relevant training ($64,091 per annum)

The Position

The Shire of Manjimup is seeking either a motivated, experienced and suitably qualified individual to take on the role of Gardener, or a motivated person willing to undertake the necessary training to commence in an entry-level Gardener position within our Parks Operations team. This role is responsible for, but not limited to:

Maintaining areas within parks, gardens and along verges throughout the Shire.

Operating and maintaining plant items and the various associated hand tools and equipment, in accordance with Council Policy and procedures.

Undertaking daily maintenance of plant and machinery including the reporting of problems or faults.

Completing high quality garden works with routine direction including recognising faults and defects.

Providing short-term relief supervision to the Property Care Team as required.

Gardener (Qualified) Selection Criteria

The ideal candidate will include have:

Basic knowledge of turf and tree management including fertilisers, pesticide and other applications.

Ability to work under limited supervision and as part of a team.

Good organisational and time management skills.

Completion/progression towards relevant qualification in horticulture, turf management or recognised equivalent experience.

Current LR class drivers’ licence.

Basic Chainsaw Operators’ Certificate.

Gardener (Entry Level) Selection Criteria

The ideal candidate will include have:

Strong interest in gardening and outdoor work.

Ability to work under limited supervision and as part of a team.

Ability to undertake physical work including lifting.

Good organisational and time management skills.

A willingness to undertake the necessary training across fields of horticulture, relevant equipment uses, construction and safety.

Current LR class drivers’ licence or willingness to obtain.

The Shire’s district was first included as a part of the Plantagenet Wellington and Sussex Road Districts in 1871 and later in the Nelson Road Board District. The Warren Road District was formed on 3 July 1908 and changed to the Manjimup Road District in June 1925. With the enactment of the Local Government Act 1960, the Manjimup Road District name was changed to Shire of Manjimup on 1 July 1961. The Shire celebrated its Centenary in 2008 having provided over 100 years of service to the district.
