DevOps Engineer - Federal Government Enterprise

$140 - $165 per hour (inc super) | 12-Month Contract + Extensions

The Opportunity
As a DevOps Engineer, you’ll join a high-performing data platform team responsible for uplifting and optimising the agency’s enterprise data warehouse. You’ll provide both technical leadership and hands-on engineering expertise, ensuring that the platform is scalable, efficient and aligned with modern DevOps and data engineering standards.

This role combines deep technical delivery with strategic oversight, deal for engineers who enjoy balancing architecture, development and mentoring within complex data ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership, mentoring and peer review across development and data modelling.
• Refine and optimise data delivery frameworks to improve integration, performance and scalability.
• Design, document and deliver new data solutions from analysis through to release.
• Drive continuous improvement in coding standards, documentation and DevOps practices.
• Collaborate with data consumers, testers and IT operations to ensure seamless delivery and support.
• Develop, audit and maintain SQL, ETL and analytical code using best-practice DevOps principles.

About You

You’re a senior engineer who thrives in fast-paced, high-impact environments. You combine technical depth with the ability to influence and guide delivery teams.

You’ll bring:

• Proven expertise in 3 of the following data warehouse platforms: MS SQL, Teradata, Snowflake, Redshift, or Databricks.
• Advanced SQL and ETL development experience, ideally with frameworks like dbt or SQLMesh.
• Strong programming skills in Python, SAS, R, or Java, including building and automating pipelines.
• Understanding of DevOps tools, processes and version control practices.
• Experience with SAS Visual Investigator, AWS Cloud, or related technologies highly regarded.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications or 3+ years of equivalent experience.
